Angel Reese stormed into the league and immediately commanded headlines with her unapologetic attitude and electric persona. From red carpet-worthy fashion statements to surging All-Star votes, the Chicago Sky star is impossible to ignore. While her off-court branding has left fans wanting more, it’s her on-court performance that tells a more complex story.

She averaged an impressive 12.3 rebounds per game and recorded 10 consecutive double-doubles for a struggling team. However, despite such performance, Reese found herself spiraling as the Sky slid into a string of losses. At one point, she even led the team in turnovers during a single game. With ball security issues and offensive gaps becoming glaring concerns for head coach Tyler Marsh and the locker room, Reese had no choice but to elevate her game—and she did just that.

In the Sky’s recent 92–85 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, the queen of rebounds flashed moments of brilliance. So when a reporter pointed out the noticeable improvement in her playmaking, saying, “We’ve seen your facilitation, especially these last three or four games, really just get a lot more sound—less turnovers as well.” It signaled that Reese may have finally found her rhythm.

In a recent interview, Reese credited her growth to the advice she’s received from league veterans like Alyssa Thomas. “I think statistically they were telling me something like, when I get more assists or something, we have a higher chance of winning,” she admitted. She emphasized that her presence on the court is about more than just scoring—it’s also about energizing the team and lifting spirits.

“I think just being able to know that and just being able to get my teammates in the right spots because they do make shots,” she continued. “We have great shooters. In the offseason, we did a great job getting who we wanted. So, I’m really happy to see that we’re going upwards.” True to her locker room discipline, Reese embraced her evolving role, dishing out assists and helping drive the team toward victory.

While the Sky have capable shooters, the team still lacks consistent offensive execution. But when two evenly matched teams clashed on June 30, Reese heeded the advice of AT and other vets—and it paid off. She established an early lead for the Sky and finished with a season-high 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists.

With this new-found rhythm on the hardwood, the question remains: Can Reese continue to elevate her teammates, or will she take on a more assertive scoring role herself? As the first player in league history to post 15+ rebounds in four straight games, her trajectory will be fascinating to watch—especially as the Sky battle to improve their current 5–11 record in the Eastern Conference standings.

All-Star Voting results serve as an eye-opener for Angel Reese

Now in her sophomore year with the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese has been widely advocating for All-Star voting this season. Unfortunately, the results were too overwhelming for the athlete and her fans. The prestigious mid-season event allows fan favorites to indulge in exciting games. But on one condition: they need to get ample votes to enter the exhibition event.

The All-Star event has a voting system that allows 50% of the votes from the fans. The other 50% weightage of votes is equally divided between the media personnel and other players (25% weightage each). Also, coaches from the league can also advocate for their favorite players to partake in the games.

Despite managing to secure a spot in the games, the response Reese received was too underwhelming. After all, she stood at no.7 in the list of front-court players. While Reese finished fifth in fan voting, she landed 12th rank with both players’ and media votes. Thereby resulting in a weighted score of 7.75.
