Whenever the Connecticut Sun take on the Chicago Sky, expect some drama. Last year, Alyssa Thomas was ejected after a hard foul on Angel Reese, and that fiery tradition continues even without the Sun’s former stars. Tonight, 6,848 fans at Mohegan Sun Arena watched the chaos unfold as three more players were ejected, while Reese could only helplessly look at everything that transpired.
With 6:35 left in the second quarter and the Sun up 27-21, things got heated under the basket. Connecticut’s Bria Hartley and Chicago’s Rebecca Allen were battling for a rebound when Allen appeared to shove Hartley from behind. The result? Hartley got her second ejection of the season as she retaliated, pushing Allen back to the floor and starting a full-on court scuffle with the guard.
Angel Reese definitely didn’t like what was going on. Sidelined, recovering from her back injury, the young forward could only help but tweet. She started her reaction spree on X with “man man man…” as the fight broke out, but what happened next was something she was a fan of!

As referees rushed in to break up the scuffle, Sky guard Ariel Atkins leapt to defend her teammate, shoving Hartley in the process. To make matters worse for her, it appeared as if she made brief contact with an official as well! This prompted another reaction from Reese, “ARIEL A REAL ONE. BEEN,” she declared. We know where that stems from.

Remember Atkins going, “This is a 23-year-old kid. And the amount of crap that she gets on a day-to-day, and she still shows up,” defending Reese against the media? Yeah, the Sky can count on their vet. But in this particular instance, the Sky had to suffer a sting too.
After the chaos at Mohegan Sun Arena, officials spent 10 minutes reviewing the incident and ended up ejecting all three players. The decision didn’t sit well with fans, and especially with Reese, who tweeted in disbelief: “WHAT??? nahhhh” as she watched two of her Sky teammates get sent off.

The ejections went on to help the Sun secure a 9-point win, though it certainly didn’t hurt that Reese wasn’t on the court. Earlier in the day, coach Marsh confirmed that Reese has no set return date from her back injury, which has kept her out for six straight games.
Reese was in the form of her life heading into the All-Star break, averaging 18.2 points and 14 rebounds over her last nine games. The real highlight? Her efficiency! She was knocking down nearly 53% of her shots from the field. But since the weekend, the Bayou Barbie has managed to play just 2 games. With no fixed timeline on her return and the Sky down 12th with an 8-24 record, all hopes for a playoff berth look all but gone.

What’s your perspective on:
Can the Chicago Sky survive without Angel Reese, or is their season already doomed?
Have an interesting take?
Despite the loss, Reese couldn’t help but be happy for her former LSU teammate, who dominated the paint and powered the Sun to victory. Here’s what she had to say.
Angel Reese gives her honest opinion on Aneesah Morrow
Despite sitting out six straight games, Reese still tops the league in total rebounds with 289. Her dominance on the boards is no secret, and it’s exactly what the Sky were missing. Without her, the team usually feared for its rebounding, managed just one more offensive board than the Sun. Most of the credit goes to Aneesah Morrow.

Aneesah, or “Nees” as everyone calls her, spent a year at LSU alongside Angel Reese. Against the Sky, she put up 9 points and grabbed 9 boards, 7 of which were defensive. She made sure Sky didn’t get those easy offensive rebounds. And Reese? She couldn’t help but give her flowers, joking on X, “bro watching nees rn lowkey pissing me off😭 cause why are you rebounding that hard rn like it’s personal knowing i’m not there 😭”
Sure, a rebound queen like Reese might feel a bit frustrated seeing someone else own the paint, but she’s all about showing love to her friends. Sadly, the on-court drama stole the spotlight from Morrow’s big night, but Reese made sure to remind everyone just how good her former teammate really is.
