WNBA has perhaps managed the best success case for the mascots. When Liberty’s Ellie the Elephant having her own Nike shoe wasn’t enough, Golden State threw a Birdwatchers Night at Chase Center to introduce their new mascot. They even took over the All-Star weekend for antics and charades, calling it mascot homecoming. So these lucky charms do matter for the teams, and Caitlin Clark is all in for it. If Ellie or BUCKET$ had a little too much attention going, the Fever sensation was here to help carry the load.

During her rookie season, Clark revealed how she made a new friend at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. “There’s a mini Freddie; I like mini Freddie,” Clark told reporters. “Mini Freddie just shows up randomly every 10 games. It’s like, you never know when he might show up. And then, mini Freddie is suddenly on the court for a game.”

Is Freddy Fever a porcupine, a bird, a dragon, a germ, or maybe an inferno disguised as a deranged tomato? No one really knows! The lovable and huggable mascot’s true identity is still a mystery. But tonight, against the Dallas Wings, Caitlin Clark brought all the attention back to the mascot by rocking a Freddie Fever shirt as she showed up at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

“You know I am your biggest fan,” she had told lil Freddie (Mini Freddie in Clark’s dictionary) last year, and we could see it loud and clear.

The Fever may have fallen short against the Dallas Wings tonight, but that didn’t take away from the wholesome moment Caitlin Clark shared with fans while rocking the mascot merch. That moment has taken social media by storm, with thousands of reactions flooding in.

WNBA’s mascot game is strong and Ellie the Elephant is undoubtedly leading the race. Her choreography, confidence, the braid, and the unapologetic drama she brings on the courtside, has made her the most influential mascot. But seems like CC is ready to get Freddy in contention, because that outfit, it caught eyes. “CAITLIN IS IN A FREDDY FEVER SHIRT… she is not real,” one fan joked.

Over the past two years, we’ve seen Caitlin rock plenty of standout looks on the court. From ‘Pay us what you owe us’ t-shirts for All-Star weekend to Aliyah Boston WSLAM cover tee, the young guard loves to mix it up and make statements. But if you ask Fever fans, “This might be my favorite merch she’s worn to date lol.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Freddie Fever a porcupine, a dragon, or just a lovable mystery? What's your guess?

Have an interesting take?

You remember ‘In 49 States it’s just basketball. But this is Indiana’. The sport is a culture for the fans here, and when your mascot, someone you identify the team with, isn’t in conversation? Yeah, fans believe Clark doesn’t wish to let that happen. “She’s sick and tired of the freddy slander,” one declared.

And in case you missed it, Freddy toured around representing the Fever to hand out 50,000 backpacks full of school supplies this summer. And for the All-Star, he led the fan interaction from the front– joined the health fair, had over 2000 kids dribbling basketball throughout the city, and hosted events across 2 days. So you understand why CC represented him proudly and fans cheered. “Caitlin supporting Freddy Fever… love her,” another added.

The mascot has been celebrating Clark since her welcome party in April last year. Her repping the lucky charm as she handed out autographs to hundreds of fans courtside, it couldn’t get any better. That’s awesome! You love to see that,” one commended.

Whether it is fans, her teammates, or even the mascot, now you know, Caitlin Clark isn’t one to shy away from spreading love.
