The crossover we’ve all been waiting for is finally here for W fans, and for a change, it is not just Gainbridge Fieldhouse that can claim the headlines of sold-out! One of the most hyped games of the season – Indiana Fever vs. Dallas Wings – was the one everyone had circled on their calendars. Why? Well, mostly because two of the brightest stars, the back-to-back No.1 picks, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, were supposed to go head-to-head for the first time as pros. But that iconic showdown might have to wait.

Still, the hype is very much alive. The Wings moved their home game to the big stage – American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks – for the first time in franchise history. And yes, it’s sold out. Both teams are hungry, no doubt, but with some key stars out, this game could look a lot different than expected. So let’s check out who’s in, who’s out, and what to expect tonight.

Injury Report

Indiana Fever: Caitlin Clark missed Thursday night’s game against the Sparks due to a left groin issue. Coach Stephanie White said she found out about the injury late Wednesday night, after Clark was sent for an MRI. White added, “I think it’s very much a day-to-day thing… how she responds to treatment.” So it’s still unclear if Clark will suit up tonight, but hopes are still alive. But with or without CC, the Fever side will be desperate to convert this into a win and avoid the win-loss gap to extend beyond 1 game. They currently hold a 7-8 record after their loss against the LA Sparks.

Dallas Wings: The Wings, despite big dreams and hopes, failed to convert the star-studded lineup into wins. They currently hold a 4-12 record, sitting last in the West Conference table. DiJonai Carrington has been out the past two games with a rib injury and didn’t practice on Thursday. A few hours later, she was listed as doubtful for the Fever game.

Dallas is also without Luisa Geiselsoder (national team duty), Ty Harris (left knee), Teaira McCowan (national team), and Maddy Siegrist (right knee). But this shouldn’t break their morale as they come with 1 win into the game, besides picking Fever’s exposed weakness against the Sparks (5-11) in their last game. So, for Paige Bueckers and co., this is one game at a time, irrespective of who plays on the other end.

What’s your perspective on:

With Caitlin Clark's status uncertain, can Paige Bueckers lead the Wings to victory?

Have an interesting take?

Probable Lineup

Indiana Fever

  • Natasha Howard
  • Aliyah Boston
  • Kelsey Mitchell
  • Sydney Colson
  • Lexie Hull

Dallas Wings

  • Arike Ogunbowale
  • Paige Bueckers
  • Kaila Charles
  • NaLyssa Smith
  • Li Yueru

Prediction: Can the Wings Ride the Wave or Will the Indiana Fever Strike Back?

All eyes were supposed to be on Bueckers vs. Clark tonight. Their college battles were legendary. Remember the 2021 Sweet 16? UConn dominated 92-72. But Iowa got its revenge in the 2024 Final Four, sneaking out a 71-69 win. Sadly, with Clark’s status still up in the air, that WNBA version might be postponed.

But make no mistake, this game still matters a lot. Dallas is playing their best ball of the season, winning three of their last four, including a surprise win over Atlanta. Now they’re eyeing their second win streak of the year. On the other side, the Fever are fired up too, especially after their recent 75-85 loss to the Sparks. They’ve been struggling to close out games, and that’s got to sting. But they are determined to win tonight despite a brutal stretch

Changes in the lineup could impact Indiana, but for Dallas, the shakeup, especially their new starting five, seems to be paying off. Talking numbers, Dallas is shooting 41.2% from the field this season, slightly below Indiana’s opponent average of 42.9%. Indiana’s putting up 83.4 points per game, just under the 85.1 Dallas gives up. At home, the Wings are 2-5. The Fever are 3-4 on the road.

So it’s probably going to be a close one. Indiana still has the big names and some steady hands in Aliyah Boston, but Dallas has momentum on their side, and they’re playing with a whole new energy. Hence…
