Who would’ve thought that when an expansion team will meet a former WNBA champ, things might actually be… unpredictable? Well, here we are. The Golden State Valkyries are hosting Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky for the first time this season, and this one might not play out how anyone imagined before the season began. The Valks are still riding the home stretch at Chase Center, while the Sky just pulled off a much-needed dub.
GSV just took a narrow loss to the Liberty, while Chicago’s flying in off that wild win over the Sparks. You remember, right? That miracle three-pointer from Kamilla Cardoso before she headed overseas for national team duty. That shot saved the day and now Chicago will be without one of their top bigs. So who’s actually suiting up tonight? Let’s break it all down.

Prediction: Can the Valks Bounce Back Against Chicago?
Golden State has been sneaky solid at home this season, sitting at 5-3. When it comes to games decided by 10 or more points, they’re 3-3. Meanwhile, Chicago’s road games haven’t been their thing. They’re just 2-6 away from home. Still, you can’t sleep on the Sky. They just beat the Sparks 97-86, and they had three starters in double figures.
On the other hand, Golden State fell just short against the Liberty, losing by three. Even then, they had three starters scoring double digits, and Kate Martin came off the bench and dropped 21. Now, for Sky, Cardoso is out, but, thankfully, the Sky have Elizabeth Williams, an 11-year vet. In her last start, she put up 14 points in the first half playing just nine minutes in that stretch. Fans loved it. The Sky even shared her highlights on social,

The Valks, on the other hand, are juggling some missing pieces too thanks to overseas commitments, but they’ve managed to stay competitive. And when it comes to numbers? Well, Golden State averages 8.5 made threes per game- lower than the 10.9 Chicago tends to give up. So if the Valks get hot from deep, that could tilt the scales.

Chicago’s shooting 42.3% from the field this season, which is actually better than what Golden State typically allows. So don’t be surprised if this turns into a back-and-forth scoring fest. Not calling it a shootout just yet, but there’s some definite firepower waiting to show up. That said… home-court edge, momentum despite the loss, and the ability to light it up from deep?
