On paper, the Golden State Valkyries vs the Connecticut Sun matchup seems to be an easy win for the Valkyries. However, in the world of professional sports, nothing is certain. Take the Valkyries for example. Starting off as an expansion team, most fans and analysts did not give them any chance. However, with 11 wins already, the Valks are sitting in a playoff position with more than half the season already played.

But the Connecticut Sun have had a torrid season. The team lost its entire starting lineup after being eliminated in the playoffs the previous year. They also lost their head coach, Stephanie White, to the Indiana Fever. With the teams set to face each other on July 27, it will be interesting to see if the Valkyries can continue their positive season or if they will fall to a shock loss at the hands of the Connecticut Sun.

Will the Golden State Valkyries Win Tonight?

ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives the Golden State Valkyries a 60.4% chance of winning the game against the Connecticut Sun. The Sun has the league’s worst defense and offense. They also rank dead-last in the league in terms of shooting both 2 and 3-pointers. Compared to them, the Valks have the league’s third-best defense and are the best 3-point shooting team in the league.

However, with the Golden State Valkyries losing their best player and defensive anchor, Kayla Thornton, their numbers are sure to take a hit. While the odds are heavily in their favour, the Connecticut Sun have some upset wins against the Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm. Will the Valkyries get another win, or will it be another shock upset from the Connecticut Sun?
