“We are exactly who we think we are,” New York Liberty center Jonquel Jones beamed after their seventh win of the season against the Connecticut Sun. And with that, the New York Liberty are just three more wins away from matching the longest winning streak in the franchise’s history. It’s already the best start for the franchise since 1997, per the WNBA.
The Liberty has won seven consecutive games this season and is not showing any signs of stopping anytime soon. They have all of their pieces clicking with Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu in top scoring form, while Jonquel Jones has dominated the paint. The closest they came to losing was against the new franchise, the Golden State Valkyries, when they managed to just barely brush past them. It was 77-78 with just 42 seconds to go, but Natasha Cloud came in clutch to score four points to win them the game.
Additionally, they have not been playing with their full roster, as Nyara Sabally has appeared in just two regular-season games so far and is averaging four points and four rebounds per game off the Liberty bench. She recently signed an extension with the franchise till the end of the 2026 season and provides depth in the paint. Let’s find out whether the Liberty will have her back in time for the Mystics game.

Injury Report: New York Liberty vs. Washington Mystics
Unfortunately, Nyara Sabally is listed as out for the Washington Mystics game with her right knee injury she sustained earlier this season.
“I’m not a doctor, but the doctor says everything’s fine there and just making sure Nyara is feeling good about it, that’s the most important thing and not bringing her back too soon,” Brondello said in a media interaction. “She’s getting there. … And hopefully on the flight, nothing goes crazy, and we’re hopeful she’ll go tomorrow.”

She did not play against the Sun, and we have no update since. Her estimated return date was approximated as June 5, but it seems like her reevaluation before the upcoming Washington Mystics game was not satisfactory enough for her to return to the hardwood.
On the Mystics front, Georgia Amoore is out. As per the update by the Mystics on Friday, she successfully underwent surgery to repair her right ACL injury that she sustained during the preseason.

Match Preview: New York Liberty vs. Washington Mystics
It was just last week that the Liberty dominated the Mystics and won 85-63, with Sabrina Ionescu scoring 28 points along with 5 assists. There were four other Liberty players who finished the game in double figures when it came to scoring. It’s not only the attack that shone as they played suffocating defense to upend the Mystics. Washington shot just 28.4 percent from the floor. It was their worst shooting night of the season, and the youngsters in the Washington Mystics had no chance against the experience and variety of the Liberty.
They will learn from that experience and will return to challenge the champions in a real David vs. Goliath matchup, as the Mystics are the youngest team in the league. Although they are coming from a loss against the Fever, Kiki Iriafen had her best game in the WNBA, scoring 20 points and 9 rebounds while being 80% accurate from the field. The Liberty will need to keep a close eye on her along with Sonia Citron, who’s also been a bright spot for the Mystics, averaging 14.1 points and 1.9 assists per game. And of course, there’s Brittney Sykes, the engine of Washington’s offense, leading the team with an impressive 21.4 points per game. Together, they pose a real threat if the Liberty lets its guard down.

Talking about the Liberty, with Nyara Sabally listed as doubtful, Isabelle Harrison is expected to continue seeing increased playing time, a trend that began after Sabally’s injury. Harrison has made the most of her opportunities, averaging 9.1 minutes per game over that stretch while contributing 4.3 points on an impressive 61.5 percent shooting. Their team’s already been so well-oiled that they just need to maintain what they are doing right now, and they are on their way to another title.
This rematch will be a key test of whether the Washington Mystics have learned from last week’s blowout loss or if the New York Liberty will once again assert their dominance with another commanding performance. The Mystics will need to show significant adjustments both defensively and in offensive execution if they hope to keep pace with a Liberty team firing on all cylinders. With their current form, chemistry, and depth, New York enters the matchup as clear favorites once again.
