12 games. Yes, the Chicago Sky has appeared in a dozen matches so far. But the outcome? Just 3 wins-far from average. While they promised an upcoming victory with flashes of brilliance against the Connecticut Sun, the locker room retracted and landed with yet another loss in their belt. And this time, it was against none other than the Phoenix Mercury.
On the other hand, the Mercury had a historic win today. With a 107-86 victory against the Sky, the 2nd highest team in the Western Conference division standings made their highest score of the season at the Wintrust Arena. Ironically, they broke the previous 94-89 record- that was secured in game one against the Sky. But it was not just the historic score! The team delivered an electrifying performance ever since they stepped foot in Chicago.
Having said that, Mercury head coach, Nate Tibbet’s dreams come closer to fruition as two of his Big 3 players, Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally took the reins of the locker room on their shoulders. Copper established the team’s dominance within minutes into the game as Sabally ended the first quarter with a 9-foot driving floating jump shot. And the result? The team finished with a jaw-dropping 31-18. But this was just the first quarter.

In the midst of celebrations after clinching one of the highest victories, Copper turned to social media. She urged her fans and followers to celebrate, with a mic-drop statement. She took to X (former Twitter) and wrote, “DUBS IN THE MF CHATTTT.” While some fans celebrated the forward’s win, others were quick to note the sharp jab guised as a W.

Kahleah Copper scored 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the other hand, Sami Whitcomb added 5 three-pointer shots from beyond the arc and finished with the team’s highest of 17 points. Moreover, Kathrine Westbeld added 5 rebounds and Alyssa Thomas made 8 assists to secure the win. The franchise is now on a five-game winning streak! All the more reason to celebrate! However, this win comes at the cost of their Sky opponent- Angel Reese.
The latest social media post mimics the one that Chicago Sky player, Angel Reese, made earlier this year. Reese had taken to X and written, “DUBS IN THE CHAT! THANK YAAAA!” on February 22, 2025. This post was dedicated to her fans after the Sky clinched an impressive victory. What next? The post soon went viral as fans celebrated her victory with a string of W’s in the comment section.
However, even Reese could not save Sky from delivering another dismal performance of the season. Kamilla Cardoso’s attempted at securing the team’s highest with Michaela Onyenwere. Together the two led the Sky with 17 points each as Reese added 9 points. With 22 turnovers in their belt, it is already game over for Chicago Sky.

Did Kahleah Copper's post-game jab cross the line, or is it all fair in sports rivalry?

Angel Reese displays worst performance of the career
As if turnovers were not enough for the sophomore athlete and her team, Chicago Sky forward athlete has gone a step ahead to push the roster into a deep pit of losses. While Angel Reese has displayed some of the most remarkable performances of the season so far, today was just not her day.
Well, I Talk Hoops media account also confirmed the stark reality today. They took to X and gave a grave account of Reese’s gameplay against the Phoenix Mercury. “Angel Reese’s 39-game streak of recording at least 9 rebounds was snapped tonight, as she finished with just 2,” the official account announced.
Known for her massive rebounding prowess across the league, Angel Reese failed to secure even 5 rebounds today. “It marked the first time in her young career that she recorded fewer than 5 rebounds. It was also the first time in her career that she attempted fewer than five shots,” the media reported. “She’s averaging 9.3 shot attempts per game this season — down three from last year.”

While Reese likes to march to her own beat, is this individuality massively hurting her teammates? While she owned up to serving the most number of turnovers in the Chicago Sky’s last game against the Washington Mystics, what does Reese have to say regarding her recent shocking performance against Mercury?
As the Sky tries to clean up the messes by Angel Reese, can HC Tyler Marsh and the locker room rely on the forward athlete to deliver next time? Or is the roster just piling up losses as they navigate through the season? As the Sky comes to terms with today’s messy defeat, it will be crucial for them to clinch victories if they wish to secure a spot in the playoffs.
