In a game that was largely driven by Angel Reese’s return to Unrivaled, her Rose BC teammate, Chelsea Gray, stole a bit of the spotlight away from her. Gray impressed with her scoring, registering 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists against Hive BC. However, it was her sequence of play against Natisha Hiedeman that caught the fans’ attention.

It happened in the first quarter, when Rose BC led 26-23. Gray drove towards the basket and was in a one-on-one tussle with Hiedeman. The Hive BC guard did her best to hold off Gray for a bit, but the latter’s next move just left everyone cracking up. Hiedeman was blocking Gray from the right when the latter surprisingly did a “shimmy shimmy ya ya” move mid-dribble, followed by a turnaround towards her right, before making a fadeaway jump shot.

The Rose BC player missed the basket, but Gray’s entertaining play was enough to make the game entertaining. Gray’s antics even left Reese laughing out on the court, although their team missed a potential two-pointer. Brickcenter shared a glimpse of Gray’s antics on X, accompanied by a subtle caption. “She did NOT need to do all that 😭😭😭,” it read.

Chelsea Gray has always been an entertainer. Be it with her skills in a 1v1 situation or setting the tone for a post-game celebration, Gray always stood out. In this instance, however, the Rose BC player didn’t get the last laugh as her team fell to a Kelsey Mitchell layup in the final seconds of the game to lose 78-80.

However, Gray carried on her impressive run after winning the 2026 Unrivaled 1v1 tournament, firing shots with precision throughout the game. Gray went 7-for-16 from the field, but it was that entertaining miss that made the headlines, and the fans didn’t hesitate to showcase their creativity with some hilarious comments.

Fans Compare Chelsea Gray to Michael Jordan and Michael Scott

“I love CG, but man….” a fan wrote. “It’s like Michael Scott out there playing basketball,” chimed in another.

Many fans drew comparisons between Chelsea Gray and “The Office” character Michael Scott because of their play sequences. Gray, like Scott, has a very sarcastic trait and a witty personality, which her teammates have confirmed at times. This has also manifested on the court at times.

For instance, during the 2023 WNBA All-Star game, Gray and her teammate A’ja Wilson were trying to free a stuck ball on the rim. But immediately, both Gray and Wilson started dancing cheerfully, highlighting that the 33-year-old doesn’t hesitate to show her witty side any chance she gets. It’s quite similar to Scott, who often cracks jokes in tense situations in the sitcom, The Office. Thus, the comparison sounds appropriate, but the comments also carried a tone that the moment would have been even more perfect if the shot had gone in.

“Y’all don’t know bout Jordan’s signature shimmy?” stated another.

The comment isn’t surprising at all, though. Gray’s sequence was quite similar to the moves used by basketball legends like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant to create space against tight defenses. However, there are certain caveats. For context, Jordan never used to do the “shimmy shimmy” dance, and it was often called a mini-shimmy or a half-whirl in media narratives.

From a more practical perspective, Gray’s move during the game can be seen as an exaggeration or extension of what Jordan used to do in the 90s, with a bit of personal touch and flair.

“chelsea gray 💁🏽‍♀️👑,” remarked another. “Are you serious?” another shared via a sticker.

With Rose BC sitting in fifth and other teams catching up in the standings, Gray’s audacious move was a talking point. Some found it impressive, while others questioned the timing.

While the move was stylish, Gray and co would need to work much harder to clinch some wins. They have two games against Phantom BC and Laces BC in the regular season, which they can’t afford to lose.
