What’s your perspective on:
Can the Aces maintain their edge without Jackie Young if her injury sidelines her longer?
Have an interesting take?
You feel a little pain when a Snapchat streak breaks? Now imagine it was a three-year-long streak…yeah, that’d hurt. But something worse might be on the horizon for the Las Vegans. Jackie Young might be on the verge of breaking her three-year All-Star streak, after earning nods in 2022, 2023, and 2024. That’s exactly what has us worried right now. Why the anticipation, you ask? Let us take you back to just a few hours ago, when the Aces met the Wings… and things took a turn.
The Aces came out on top against the Wings tonight, but just barely. They scraped by with a 4-point win. Every teammate chipped in, some more than others… and Jackie Young the least. Less than 48 hours after dropping 30 vs. the Valkyries, she managed only 2 points tonight. But not all was grim for Vegas. A’ja Wilson put up a monster 37-point, 10-rebound performance to carry the load. Jewell Loyd, too, stepped up big with 14 points and 8 rebounds of her own, showing just why she’s always a threat.

Still, even after the win and some standout performances, the team took a hit. With 8:21 left in the game, Jackie Young went down with a right hip injury, and it didn’t look minor. The official word came quick: she wouldn’t be returning. And she didn’t. Now, there’s a cloud of anticipation in the air. Jackie was set to represent the Aces at All-Star Weekend alongside fellow Aces loyal, A’ja Wilson, who was voted in as a starter. Her status now though? It’s suddenly uncertain.

Only time will tell if Team Caitlin Clark will be suiting up without their veteran on bench. For now, all eyes are on Jackie Young. If history tells us anything, it’s that she’s built to bounce back. Since entering the league in 2019, Jackie hasn’t suffered any major injuries. That’s a six-year stretch of durability that speaks volumes about her physical strength.
The only real scare? It came earlier this year, during her stint with the Unrivaled league. The refs ruled out the veteran guard due to a left knee injury and she missed the Laces BC’s season opener against Phantom BC. Despite being on the injury report though, she was spotted warming up pregame, doing drills and looking sharp. Hopefully, it’s the same case this time too, because when Jackie Young is at her best, it’s her name headlining the story.
Jackie Young’s game speaks on explosive night
Just two nights before her early exit against the Wings, Jackie Young dropped 30 points on the Golden State Valkyries and etched her name in the record books. That game was extra special because it pushed her past 3,000 career points. It’s a milestone that she managed to hit in just 218 games. “It’s cool to, just like, to be able and look back and see how much I’ve accomplished,” she said afterward. “How far I’ve come since, you know, my rookie year, my first three years in the league.”
Being drafted No. 1 overall by Las Vegas in 2019, Jackie Young came into the WNBA alongside stars like Arike Ogunbowale, Napheesa Collier, and Teaira McCowan. But while some of her peers have switched teams or systems, Jackie has stayed loyal to the Aces. She has evolved over seven seasons from a quiet role player into a cold-blooded closer. That’s also why she has earned nicknames like “Special Agent Zero” and “The Silent Assassin.”
And her breakout has been especially undeniable in 2025. With A’ja Wilson missing time twice (first due to a concussion vs. the Sparks, then a wrist injury vs. the Liberty), Jackie Young has stepped up big. She even has all the leadership qualities for that, beginning with distributed credit. “Shoutout to my teammates,” she said after the Valkyries game. “They’re always giving me the ball and instill a lot of confidence in me, especially, you know, after the last game.” That consistency is what’s making her potential All-Star absence so surprising and scary. Because when Jackie Young plays, she shows out.
