“Improving Overall”: Kim Clijsters Keeps Positive Outlook Following Chicago Fall Tennis Classic R1 Loss

Returning to the WTA tour after a year-long break, Former World No.1 Kim Clijsters made her comeback at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. In her first round at Chicago, she faced Taiwanese international, Hsieh Su-Wei, but lost the game 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Despite the loss, the Belgian professional had only positive takeaways from the encounter.
After last year’s US Open, Clijsters picked up on injuries and had since been in recovery mode. Therefore, coming out finally to compete professionally for the first time since gave her “a good feeling.”

Kim Clijsters on her comeback match at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic 2021
Firstly, the four-time Grand Slam champion expressed how she felt returning to the court after more than a year. Clijsters also analyzed her fitness level and game afterward.
“Obviously, it was exciting to go back out there after a long period of recovery,” Clijsters began. “The match, you know, some good things and bad things, inconsistency.”

Notably, the 38-year-old Belgian also expressed how pleased she was with her physicality and how she believes she’s on the right track to improving her game.
“Physically being able to get through these matches without big concerns, that was the main goal. I came close today, but I still have a good feeling. I’ve made progression, and I think that’s the most important thing. What I’m looking at is that I’m improving overall, and that’s the positive thing,” Clijsters concluded.

Consequently, the former singles and doubles World No.1 ended her run in WTA Chicago. Besides, Elina Svitolina, Belinda Bencic, Bianca Andreescu, Victoria Azarenka, and Garbine Muguruza are still in the draw.

Undoubtedly, Clijsters has one of the most flawless games in the women’s circuit, even today. Hence, it is only a matter of time until she returns to her winning ways.
New York Empire vs San Diego Aviators from the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.More importantly, Chicago was probably a test for Clijsters in the build-up to the WTA 1000 Indian Wells event. Apart from that, there are still a handful of tournaments left in the season.
