Coco Gauff has defied age to step onto the big stage in tennis. At 17, she is already amongst one of the brightest prospects in women’s tennis currently. A former junior World Number 1, she made headlines when she became the girls’ singles finalist in US Open history. She finished as the runners-up in the 2017 US Open girls’ singles, losing to Amanda Anisimova in the summit clash. Subsequently, she clinched her first junior Grand Slam singles title at the 2018 French Open.

Further, Gauff had a seamless transition to her senior career. She reached the quarterfinals of the French Open last year, losing to the current World Number 2, Barbora Krejčíková, in the last eight. Additionally, the American has been successful on the doubles circuit too along with singles. Recently, she opened up on a freak incident involving her.

Coco Gauff talks about getting stuck in an elevator

In a conversation with Tennis Channel, the 17-year-old revealed that she was stuck in an elevator after a match. Throwing light upon the incident, she said, “Oh my gosh, I actually got stuck in an elevator in Charleston. The elevator broke that is usually how people get trapped in the elevator. It was after a match and the firefighters had to come but I was alone.”

Further, she revealed with which player she wouldn’t want to be trapped inside an elevator. She went on to add, “Experience says Tiafoe, I wouldn’t want to be. I love the guy but I feel like he would freak out a lot and make me stressed out and then he kind of like talks a lot. When I was trapped in elevator, I wouldn’t want somebody to like talk to me.”

Coming to tennis, Gauff has had a mixed start to this season. She made a semifinal appearance at the Adelaide International 2 tournament, losing to compatriot, Madison Keys, in the last-four clash. However, she had an early exit at the Australian Open. She went down against her lower-ranked Chinese opponent, Qiang Wang, in straight sets. Subsequently, she suffered a similar fate in the Dubai Tennis Championships. Lately, she made a quarterfinal appearance in Doha.
