While keeping the integrity of Black History Month, Caroline Dubois in her conversation with Sky Sports News acknowledged 4 of her favorites. She mentioned American boxer and MMA specialist Claressa Shields. Afterward, she also acknowledged 4-times Olympic gold medalist, Simone Biles. She obviously mentioned retired boxer, Laila Ali. However, it was quite surprising when she mentioned someone younger than herself, Coco Gauff.

Dubois told the story about the time when she first heard of  Coco Gauff. She said, “Lately, I’ve started to get into tennis. I remember being in Sheffield for boxing camp; for some reason, tennis was always on. And that’s when I first heard about Coco.” She then went on to describe Gauff’s popularity. In her words: “She was all over the newspapers and the internet.” She also hinted at the fact that Gauff became the first American teenager to win the US Open since Williams in 1999. As she said: “This young kid has just dethroned the Williams sisters, which was a big thing.” The comments of Dubois also hinted at the constant growth of women.

Coco Gauff’s achievement in 2023

Although the season is still not over until the WTA finals, Coco Gauff has already attained many feats. She defeated the then World’s No.1, Iga Swiatek to take the Cincinnati Open title. She also defeated the current World’s No.1, Aryna Sabalenka to take the US Open title.

When it comes to the World rankings, being in the third spot, Coco Gauff is still behind Sabalenka and Swiatek. Although her rapid growth seems like enough proof that the champ will soon overtake the rankings as well.
