Simona Halep, the Romanian tennis ace, is one of the best tennis players on the WTA tour. She has won two Grand Slams and has achieved a career-high ranking of World No.1. However, she has been struggling with her form recently. This prompted Halep to turn to one of her rival’s former coaches.

After playing in Indian Wells, Halep started training under the world-renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Further, Mouratoglou traveled alongside her the entire clay-court season and is now prepping her for the grass-court season.

Mouratoglou gives an update about Simona Halep

The duo is gearing up for upcoming the Wimbledon championship. With the event just a month away, Partick has started planting tricks under the former World No.1’s sleeves. Recently, he shared a clip from Halep’s training session where he is teaching her how to execute a perfect slice serve. Mouratoglou wrote, “Slice serve session with Simona Halep. P.S. the result will amaze you!”

In addition, Williams’ former coach is seen asking the Romanian to slice the ball instead of the normal serving motion. As he says, “instead of hitting here you just do this (points at the rim of the racket). So this is a lot of slices, this is a lot of spin.”

Patrick Mouratoglou has trained several tennis stars over the years. Apart from the 23-time Grand Slam champion, he has helped World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas and shaped the 18-year-old 2022 French Open runner-up Coco Gauff.

Halep in this year’s clay court season

Halep was slowly pacing towards her peak form when she suffered an injury and fell back to square one. The two-time Grand Slam champion made it up to the semifinals of the Indian Wells but suffered a leg injury. Subsequently, she missed the Miami Open and the initial events of the clay court season.

However, she reached the quarterfinals of the very first event after her comeback from injury. Halep defeated Paula Badosa and Coco Gauff to move into the last eight of the Madrid Open. Thereafter, she lost the quarterfinals match against the eventual champion, Ons Jabeur.

Following that, she faced a second round exit in the Italian Open and the French Open. As she has started training for the grass court season, fans will be hoping to see Halep challenge the current top seeds.
