What separates pro wrestling from wrestling is showmanship. While pure wrestling is about technical acumen, pro wrestling is a blend of technique and well-constructed storylines. Iconic moves designed to be bold, when executed properly, send the crowd into a frenzy. But when they are not executed properly, they often lead to dangerous consequences for the wrestlers.

On the last episode of AEW Dynamite, pro wrestling legend Sting attempted a risky jump and ended up with a major botch. Following the event, Sting gave a health update, much to the concern of fans.

The Stinger suffers an injury at AEW Dynamite

Sting is 64 years old and has been part of the wrestling industry since the 80s. The 15-time world champion currently plies his trade in AEW. His debut in Tony Khan’s promotion was well received by fans. The Icon’s maiden appearance ended with him saving Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin from an onslaught by Team Taz’s Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks.

Although Rhodes has signed a deal with Sting’s previous employer, he is currently tagging along with Allin. They faced Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a tornado tag team match on the 28th of this month. Sting had faced the same opponents at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door PPV a few days ago in Toronto, Canada. During that match, Guevara hit Sting with a splash and put him through the table. Sting’s attempt at revenge on AEW Dynamite turned into a risky move that cost the veteran WWE star dearly.

While attempting the splash, the 64-year-old landed several inches short and fell face-first into the table. After the match, Sting reportedly told the spectators that he is going to need stitches for his torn lip and may have knocked a tooth out of place. However, to his credit, ‘The Stinger’ managed to make Jericho tap out to win the match.

Meanwhile, fans weren’t happy with Sting’s daredevilry and several of them took to social media to remind him of his age. Sting’s injury comes right after a WWE legend requested him to retire a few days ago.

Eric Bischoff wants Sting to go out big

Eric Bischoff is a familiar name in the wrestling industry. Before becoming an on-screen manager in WWE RAW, Bischoff earned fame as the Executive Producer of World Championship Wrestling. Sting performed in the WCW for over a decade. So, the two know each other well.

Despite 64-Year-Old Sting’s Gravity-Defying Stunt, Fans Rally to Remind Him His “Glory Days Are Over”

Speaking on his  83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff said he wants Sting to retire. AEW has its upcoming PPV, AEW All In in the UK, on August 27 at Wembley Stadium in London. Bischoff said the icon should retire after the event.

“No, I don’t think we will [have his last match in 2023] ’cause I think Tony [Khan] will convince Sting to stick a little longer if that’s what Tony wants, and I understand that. Personally, I’d like to see Sting retire because first of all, he’s gonna be [in front of] 65, 70,000 people. If you’re gonna put a period at the end of the last sentence in the last chapter of your career, go out big,” he said [h/t: TJR Wrestling]
