When asked about Cody Rhodes’ neck tattoo, Britt Baker revealed the backstage rivalry between Cody Rhodes and his former protégé MJF. She said, “So, there was a lot of controversy around that internally at the time because…MJF, at the time, I don’t know if I can say this, I’m just going to say it because f*ck MJF. He felt that Cody was trying to steal his thunder at the time because they were in a feud at the pay-per-view.

The neck tattoo in reference here is now Cody Rhodes’ signature mark that is often displayed during his entrance. It has a skull painted in The American flag pattern. The moment in reference happened during the AEW Revolution PPV in 2020 when The American Nightmare revealed his neck tattoo to the world.

The rivalry was intense since MJF not only cost Cody Rhodes a title opportunity but also further cost him the opportunity to ever challenge for the title in the future. This was due to the stipulation in place for the match between the then AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and Cody Rhodes.

MJF thought Cody Rhodes tried to steal his spotlight

Britt Baker then explained why MJF was upset with Cody revealing the tattoo. She says, “Cody vs. MJF, MJF big coming out moment, and it was like his Harrah, and Cody shows up, bam, with a neck tattoo. MJF was like ‘Stealing the spotlight a little?’ Yup, that’s what MJF says. I’m sure he doesn’t care now because MJF is successful on his own.

As of now, MJF is out of AEW after losing his World title to Samoa Joe while Rhodes is gearing up to face Roman Reigns again at WrestleMania in a much anticipated rematch for the World title.
