WWE President Nick Khan’s professional career is in the pink of health at the moment. Dwayne Johnson’s childhood friend was one among the few people from the promotion to attend the historic $21.4 billion merger that saw Endeavor clubbing WWE and UFC together. Shortly after it, Khan received a whopping $15 million bonus, more than Vince McMahon’s son-in-law and iconic pro wrestler Triple H, who serves as the creative head of the company.

But soon after his financial success, Khan committed a gaffe, involving the death of WWE legend Test. This left him exposed to fans’ wrath.

What did Nick Khan say about Test?

On the day of the historic merger, prominent podcaster Bill Simmons dropped a new episode of his eponymous podcast. The September 12 episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast had Khan as the guest with the duo discussing all that is WWE.

During the course of their chat, Simmons spoke about Stephanie McMahon’s absence from the promotion. Vince McMahon’s daughter had bid adieu earlier this year, after serving as Co-Chief Executive Officer and Chairwoman of WWE for a year between 2022 and 2023. Strangely enough, the podcast host pitched ideas to Khan and asked him if it was possible to have an angle featuring McMahon and Test.

To his credit, the WWE President was able to correctly state the demise of the wrestler, who had previously played the on-screen fiancé of the younger McMahon, but added that Test had died a couple of years ago.

The second part of his response to Simmons has come under criticism, as the Canadian pro wrestler breathed his last over 14 years ago.

How did the fans respond to the remark?

Test worked with the WWE from 1998 to 2004 and had success in both the singles and tag team divisions. Sporting a giant frame, he began an on-screen relationship with Stephanie McMahon that was highly acclaimed as a storyline.

Five years after his WWE exit, Test died of an accidental overdose. So, naturally, Khan’s ‘couple of years’ remark about their beloved wrestler didn’t sit well with many who chose to address the issue online. The comments came in after an X user uploaded the transcript of Khan and Simmons’ conversation.

This user took a not-so-subtle jab at Khan for his ‘couple’ remark.

While another expressed doubt if the top brass is aware of all the employees he’s heading.

There were obvious reminders about 14 years not being a couple. In fact, more than one X user made sure to point it out. The tweet beneath also called out Simmons, whose question sparked the outrage.

Others were just struck by the fact that Khan completely underestimated how long ago Test had passed.

While Test’s death was nearly a decade and a half ago, the wound of his death still remains. The wrestler had passed away from an overdose just four days before his 34th birthday.
