Amidst Major Concerns Over Vince McMahon’s Return to Creative, WWE CEO Provides an Update on Triple H’s Future in the Company

Ever since Vince McMahon engineered his way back to the WWE board of directors, there have been speculations about his role in the creative. Those rumors have amplified after the multi-billion dollar merger with UFC involving its parent company Endeavor. Finally, a top WWE official has spoken and given fans a peak into what could be the arrangement going forward.

There have been musings that McMahon, who has been announced as the Executive Chairman of his brainchild after the deal, is back in creative. WWE CEO Nick Khan recently opened up on whether that is the case.

Khan interacted with LightShed Live on April 7 and insisted Triple H remains in charge of the in-ring creative aspects. He said, “On Monday {April 3}, you know when this deal was officially announced, Vince sent out a company-wide email to our thousand or so employees, including myself, and in the email, he laid out the structure of the NewCo.”

He further added, “Which certainly if you guys have read about or familiar with. So in addition to Vince being the Executive Chairman, Ari Emanuel being the CEO, Mark Shapiro being the president, Dana White continuing as president of UFC and me at WWE. Specifically, Vince articulated that Paul Levesque remains the sole Chief Creative Officer.”

While Khan has made his point, the rumblings from various quarters are unlikely to die down so easily. Fans have made it clear that they want McMahon far away from any booking decision. Any inkling of doubt regarding the creative is bound to raise their suspicions.

Intriguing television matches and long-term storytelling have been the hallmark of his reign. Something that has been missing from programming recently especially on RAW after WrestleMania 39.

The RAW after WrestleMania is arguably the most awaited show all year. The fact that the excitement from ‘Mania is still prevalent makes the edition special. In addition, the night has always been associated with unexpected returns or NXT call-ups.

The version of RAW this year was widely considered disappointing by fans. With Brock Lesnar turning heel and decimating Cody Rhodes the only highlight.

Matt Riddle was the only performer who returned on the night as the night had an overall underwhelming feel with many below-par matches and angles. Such questionable booking decisions led many to suspect who actually was pulling the strings behind the scene.

Nick Khan’s recent remarks would have provided a clear picture of the roles assumed by everyone under the new arrangement. They might reduce the chatter around WWE’s creative but won’t be an end to the raging debate. It’s really hard to find a definitive answer to the question.
