While one of the most alluring things about a WWE PLE is usually the main event of the night, it’s not always a desirable card. At WrestleMania 39, we received two main events because of the two-night planning regarding the PLE. However, not everyone was satisfied with the order of the lineup. One of these people is WWE star Sheamus.

It is close to a year since WM 39 was hosted at the SoFi Stadium, California, but Sheamus has still not forgotten about the main event that he was robbed of. In his own words, the Irish wrestler recently claimed that he deserved to be in Roman Reigns‘ spot at the biggest PLE of 2023.

Sheamus’ match card was placed on the second night’s lineup. While Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes main evented the last night, Sheamus, Gunther, and Drew McIntyre were chronologically placed on number three out of the total six matches that night. The Irish wrestler recently shed light on what he thought about the lineup while speaking with Virgin Media Sport Stories.

When asked about the goals he still has in WWE, Sheamus replied, “The IC Title and main event WrestleMania are the two things I want to do. I should have main evented WrestleMania (39). It should have gone on last. It stole the show at WrestleMania.” The former WWE Champion further added, “Nothing came close, match-wise, the match me, Gunther, and Drew had. I knew that was always going to be the case. I was so close (to winning the IC Title) at Mania, and it just got taken away from me.

Days after WM 39, Charlotte Flair also publicly announced that she had wanted to main event the PLE. She was confident that her match with Rhea Ripley was such a blast that she claimed it to be ‘the main event’.

Seeing how upset Sheamus is with the promotion for ‘stealing away’, the statement could be seen as Sheamus planning on walking out of the Stamford-based company out of dissatisfaction.

Along with some other big stars, Sheamus’ WWE contract is also running out. According to the latest reports, there are a handful of talents whose contracts with the leading wrestling promotion will end in 2024. Among other top stars, “The Celtic Warrior” is also on the list.

So, if there is a chance that the wrestler is disappointed in the management of the company or continues to have differences, he may not renew his contract and end up leaving WWE altogether.

What do you think about Sheamus’ statement? Could he be gearing up to leave the promotion, or is he just venting frustrations much like Flair did after WM 39?
