Vince McMahon introduced Austin Theory as a future WWE Universal Champion. Austin Theory previously stated that John Cena inspired him to pursue a career in WWE.
However, on the recent Monday Night Raw, Austin Theory successfully defended his United States Championship against Finn Balor, and the rising star took advantage of the chance to send a message to Cena following their match.

On Cena’s 45th birthday, Theory wished him a happy birthday on Twitter and claimed that he is a better United States Champion than Cena. After winning the fight against Balor, Theory stated to a young Cena fan in the video, “Bro, it makes me better than John Cena!”

John Cena has been absent from the WWE since his match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. Cena is preoccupied with his future film project. He said that he will return to WWE as soon as he is completed with his assignments. However, it appears like the Theory is setting up the storyline for Cena’s return.

Speaking to WWE El Brunch, Austin Theory said “I didn’t know anything about wrestling. I was eight, I turned on the TV, I saw John Cena. I started watching and paying attention and he had this aura, this energy, about him. He could just attract attention in a very good way. The stuff he would say and the messages he would put out was very positive and motivating.”
