John Cena has been one of the greatest wrestlers to come out of the Ruthless Aggression Era. In addition, he single-handedly carried WWE in its transition phase and was considered by many the last ‘Superstar’ of WWE. However, he has been absent from the WWE since his match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. However, it appears like the Theory is setting up the storyline for Cena’s return.

Theory previously confirmed that John Cena influenced him and that he grew up watching him. Additionally, Cena was the one who inspired him to pursue a career in professional wrestling. On the After Bell Podcast, the current champion expressed his desire to defend his title against WWE legend John Cena and stated his willingness to face him at SummerSlam.

On the podcast, he stated, “I ultimately want to defend the United States Championship against John Cena.”

When questioned if The Miz will be the referee for this match. Theory said. “I think Miz [Theory’s recent personal referee] is the best referee… I think he’s the best, I think he fits me, you know? But I think the one with me and John Cena, let’s just keep it to me and John. I’m not exactly sure on a venue, but definitely, I just feel like a SummerSlam would just be so cool.”

In addition, a few weeks ago, on Cena’s 45th birthday, on Twitter, Theory wished him a happy birthday and claimed that he is a better United States Champion than Cena. This might indicate that Theory is creating an appealing storyline ahead of the fight.

When is John Cena coming back to WWE?

The PG era’s biggest figure was undoubtedly John Cena. However, it’s been quite a long time since he last wrestled. The last bout he had was against The Tribal Chief at SummerSlam, 2021. Where Roman Reigns defeats Cena and retains the Universal Championship.

In addition, Cena, like Dwayne Johnson, has established himself as a top-tier Hollywood actor. The Peacemaker actor has been working on several film projects, therefore he left WWE to finish his commitments. However, after he completes his projects, the WWE Universe may expect to see him in the ring.
