He had an opportunity at Wrestlemania 39 but sadly failed to win the championship due to interference by Solo Sikoa. But in spite of not getting a chance to pin Reigns that night, Rhodes did something spectacular exactly 10 years ago.

And not just once, he did it twice in the span of two weeks, back to back.

And as per the storyline back then, Rhodes got fired from the WWE as that was the stipulation after losing to Randy Orton. Later Goldust fought Orton with Cody’s reinstatement on the line, but he lost the match and was fired as well. This led to their father Dusty Rhodes pleading to Stephanie McMahon for his son’s jobs.

But Stephanie McMahon went on to call The Shield and Big Show to attack The American Dream. Eventually Big Show apologized to Rhodes before knocking him out as he had no other option. This infuriated Cody Rhodes and Goldust who later appeared on RAW and attacked The Shield. Then at PPV Backstage, Cody Rhodes and Goldust faced Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a non-title match with the stipulation that they would be re-signed again.
