The last two days have been really tough days for WWE fans. On both these days, stars from the WWE roster were let go as part of the recent budget cuts. After multiple releases on September 21, the news that hit the fans the next day was the release of Matt Riddle. But news has now emerged that Vince McMahon was never in favor of another star who was just laid off.

Maybe had McMahon pulled a few strings, we would still see this star on the roster.

Fans are actually worried that as days go by, a lot more wrestlers will be shown the door. It even shocked WWE legends like John Cena and Dwayne Johnson. These wrestling heavyweights took to Twitter to praise Ziggler for his achievements in the WWE. Ziggler joined the WWE in 2004 and served the company for nearly two decades, which is an massive achievement. During his long stint with the WWE, he won every major WWE title that was there to offer and is a Grand Slam Champion.

However, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon was ‘never high’ on Dolph Ziggler, despite him being one of the consistent performers for the promotion.

Ziggler wrestled in an incredible 1554 matches during his WWE tenure. But in spite of bagging most of the gold in the WWE around his waist, he failed to get McMahon’s stamp of approval.

Dave Meltzer further reported that McMahon didn’t see Ziggler as a main event star. Even when Ziggler had the World Heavyweight Championship, McMahon told his writers that the title run was “short term and that he wasn’t a top guy.”

So Ziggler’s name on the layoff list makes perfect sense because if McMahon wanted, he could have retained him. But as Ziggler’s career in pro wrestling seems to have almost come to an end, he is just beginning to gain success in another.

When you think of WWE stars who should take up standup comedy as a career, you think of Dwayne Johnson and LA Knight because of their quick wit and wisecracks. But Dolph Ziggler is actually quite a funny guy and has been making quite a name for himself in the standup scene.

He is a big fan of comedy legends like the late Johnny Carson, Adam Sandler, and George Wallace. But it wasn’t until 2018 that Ziggler started taking comedy seriously and actually saw it as a second profession. In 2019 he went out on his solo comedy tour from January to March.

He actually took a break from the WWE for his comedy tour. So this WWE release might actually be a blessing in disguise for Ziggler as now he can do standup comedy full time. But what are your opinions about Vince McMahon never being a fan of Dolph Ziggler?
