Elias emerged as one of the most prominent names in the departures and he went on to thank the fans who supported him throughout his WWE Journey. He spoke about numerous aspects, including his emergence onto the scene, about his drifter gimmick, and his match with John Cena and The Undertaker at WrestleMania. He thanked the fans who followed him, made his album #1, and then dropped a massive bomb. Elias wrote, “& To being my own younger brother (ZEKE).”

This came as a massive shock, as Elias revealed that his brother’s character of Ezekiel and himself were one and the same. Ezekiel debuted on April 4, 2022, during an episode of Monday Night RAW. Claiming to be the brother of Elias, Ezekiel looked exactly like Elias with a clean-shaven look. He also sported shorter hair and wore trunks. He got into a feud with Kevin Owens, which unfortunately did not go anywhere and soon he disappeared.

According to Dave Meltzer, Triple H never took kindly to the character and scrapped it as soon as he became creative head in July 2022. WWE eventually wrote the character off TV, with Elias given a few months to grow out his beard. Ezekiel was the new gimmick Elias was meant to play post-WrestleMania 38. According to the planned storyline, Ezekiel would take revenge for Elias by beating Owens. Despite no evidence of whose idea this character was, many point fingers at Vince McMahon.

Notable wrestling entities let go in a spree of releases

The number of talent that the WWE released after the merger was shocking. After seven years and being ranked among the top high-flyers, they released Mustafa Ali. This was just a week before his match against Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship at NXT No Mercy. Emma just returned in 2022 after leaving in 2017. She took to social media to tag a post she previously sent out about being part of The Elimination Chamber in 2024, which she considered a dream.

After two long decades with the WWE, Dolph Ziggler also had his WWE career come to a close, which shocked a few. Shanky, who joined the WWE in 2020 and was part of Veer and Jinder Mahal’s teams, was also released. During the recent SuperStar Spectacle, he took on Gunter for the Intercontinental Championship. People from the performance center and recruiters were also part of those who got the unfortunate axe.
