While Foley appeared on the episode of Drew McIntyre and Mick Foley: WWE’s The Bump, Dec. 13, 2023, he was asked about Punk’s return. Punk is currently a hot topic in the world of pro wrestling and fans want to know what everyone feels about it.

Taking the opportunity, Foley said, “I remember getting a text from Punk when he left after the Rumble, and he was upset.” This coincides with how the former AEW star felt at the time. According to Punk and his shoot pipe bomb promo, he did not feel valued in the company. Despite all that Punk did to elevate himself and the WWE, he never felt respected for his work.

Foley said what the Chicago-based star had said in the text message, “I’ve realized the only way to really make it there, to earn the respect, is to go somewhere else and then come back.” While fans believe Punk had no other option but to return to the WWE, this message clearly indicates that he had his return planned from the start. This clearly shows why The Second City Saint is among the greatest wrestlers both inside and outside the ring. Punk has gained plaudits for his return from notable figures in pro wrestling. One such wrestling legend termed the Chicago-based star’s return as “perfect”.

Jim Ross felt CM Punk had a perfect return

Regarding the opinions of WWE Legends on Punk, former WWE ring announcer Jim Ross felt it was perfect. On his Grilling JR podcast, Ross said, “It was a perfect booking decision. It was a great creative move.”

He went on to support his claim by talking about the massive pop. Despite the return of Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes and Co. winning the WarGames match, the pop for Punk dwarfed everything else. The decision to bring back the revered superstar has already started to prove dividends for Triple H & Co. Hopefully, the wrestling legion can say for sure that bringing back Punk was a masterstroke after the end of his second run. Thankfully, there is a lot of time to savor this magical experience as it plays out on our television screens.
