Since making his WWE debut in 1996, Dwayne Johnson has been one of the most influential pro wrestlers in the world. Not just his electrifying moves or great promo skills, but his colleagues have also spoken about Johnson’s backstage interactions. Recently, a 56-year-old former WWE superstar recalled one of Dwayne Johnson’s special gestures for him. He said The Great One wasn’t pleased with how the promotion treated him and decided to help out.

Dwayne Johnson offered former enhancement talent a job

Marty Garner, who appeared in WWE as Cham Pain, recently sat down for a chat with the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast. The 56-year-old spoke about his time in the WWE among other things, and also revealed a special interaction he had with The Rock.

Recalling his memories from the 2003 WrestleMania, Garner said he went to Safeco Field in Seattle with Johnson and his body double. It was there that the 51-year-old’s body double and cousin, Tanoai Reed, told him what The Brahma Bull thought about his stint with the WWE. “His stunt double told me, ‘So, look man, Dwayne wasn’t going to tell you this, but he thinks WWE should have given you a shot a long time ago’.”

Reed told Garner about Johnson’s plan to offer him a job in a movie. “He said ‘So, he wants you to come work with us on a movie coming up in June in Vancouver’, he said, ‘but act like you don’t know that’,” Cham Pain explained.

A few months later, the former WWE employee worked as Johnson’s assistant in Walking Tall, which was released in 2004. He said it was some of the coolest times of his life.

While Johnson helped his former colleague, not everyone treated Garner the same way. During the chat, he opened up about receiving a threat from another former WWE employee.

Marty Garner recalls John Laurinaitis’ threat

The three-time SCW Heavyweight Championship said former WWE Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis, once threatened to have him arrested. The incident took place after the WWE was hit with loads of emails asking the company to hire back the wrestler.

“I said Johnny I didn’t do that. He said ‘Well, I don’t want to ever see you again’. He said, ‘If you come to a show I’ll have you arrested’,” Garner said.

Now that Laurinaitis is not with WWE anymore, Garner has expressed his desire to come back to the Stamford-based company for another stint after his two previous stints. One was after his debut from 1995 to 1997, and another in between 2006 and 2008.
