“I’ve Never Even Heard”: Sami Zayn Comments on Celebrities With 100M Instagram Followers

Sami Zayn is one of the top babyfaces in WWE right now. His involvement in the Bloodline storyline as the Honorary Uce helped elevate his character and the entire saga further. His ‘Ucey’ chants along with his disagreement with Jimmy Uso resulted in memorable segments for the WWE crowd. One of the most cherished aspects of his ‘Honorary Uce’ character was his acting skills which made the act more believable.

Riding on the wave of his character, Zayn thought of getting into Hollywood. However, he failed to establish a connection with an agent. Nevertheless, the WWE wrestler exclaimed wonder at one aspect of the movie industry in a foreign land. Zayn commented about Bollywood stars who amass around 100 million followers.

Sami Zayn appeared as a guest on the ‘Out of Character’ show on FOX Network with the host Ryan Satin. He spoke about his WrestleMania 39 victory with Kevin Owens, his involvement in The Bloodline storyline, and his potential acting career. He narrated an anecdote about a movie agent failing to recognize him before citing an example of Bollywood to emphasize the reason for his failure.

Sami Zayn: “It’s very specific and you got very popular in a very niche kind of thing and I think about this even with like India and stuff like that. Because there are massive pop stars and movie stars and Bollywood actors that are just massive, and of course, I have never heard, I’ve never even heard of that. But, if you go on their Instagram or something they’ll have like 100 Million followers.

Zayn emphasized how being a star in a niche industry such as pro wrestling can be a bane at times. He mentioned a failed arrangement with a movie agent for a Hollywood work after the agent failed to recognize Zayn and his line of work. As per Zayn, the reason could be the agent’s disinterest in pro wrestling.

He gave examples of Bollywood stars (without taking names) that have over 100 million followers. However they are not too well known in the West (Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar). It is to be noted that Zayn merely referred to an approximate number as none of the Bollywood stars has over 100 million followers on Instagram.  

Despite the agent’s criticism, the WWE wrestler has showcased his versatility with various gimmicks in the squared circle.

Over the years Zayn has switched his character many times from heel to face and vice versa. His persona changed from the conspiracy theorist to the locker room leader before feuding with Brock Lesnar. It led to his involvement with The Bloodline and gave him enough opportunity to showcase his acting range.

During the funny segments with The Bloodline, he never broke character while everybody around him was laughing. Zayn showed impressive range to adapt to the emotional side of his character. Leaving The Bloodline also helped him unlock another layer of depth to his character.

Though many WWE superstars have tried their hands at the Hollywood journey, not many have succeeded. So, it would be interesting to see how Zayn’s journey would be.
