The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has remained one of the top performers at WWE since his return in 2021. Rhodes has had several great matches in this period, including his WrestleMania 39 match against Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship. Despite his ‘Mania defeat, there has been little loss in his public appeal.

However, the momentum Rhodes had created does seem to have lost steam, especially since he is nowhere near the WWE Championship now. But, Cody Rhodes still has a saving grace in the form of an upcoming PLE, WWE WarGames.  In fact, here’s the main reason why Cody Rhodes being in the WarGames is poetic justice to his WWE career.

Cody Rhodes has been unstoppable for a great deal of time now, and his hard work behind everything shows. In his most recent PLE matchup, Rhodes took care of MITB holder Damian Priest and took a towering win. Following the main event on RAW, a brawl between The Judgment Day and Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, and Jey Uso, led the GM Adam Pearce to announce that the two groups will compete in a WarGames match at Survivor Series.

The WarGames is a part of the Survivor Series for the second year running on WWE’s main roster and involves two teams in a grueling battle in two rings covered by a single cage. Interestingly, The American Nightmare holds a very special connection with the event. It was his father, Dusty Rhodes, who created the concept of WarGames in 1987 in the Jim Crockett Promotions of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). It was later carried to the WCW and was held annually.

Dusty Rhodes was a part of the first six WarGames match that often pitted him against The Four Horsemen. The WarGames, thus are a huge part of Dusty Rhodes’ legacy and now his son gets to be a part of the match his father came up with.

Booking Rhodes in a WarGames match shows how keenly WWE is invested in Rhodes’ character as they look to draw the Dusty connection and have him honor his father’s legacy. This could mean he is on the right track after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

Last year, Cody Rhodes was the top contender for the WWE Championship against Roman Reigns. The American Nightmare was massively cheered for by the WWE Universe, who were disappointed by his WrestleMania 39 loss.

Cody Rhodes later came out with his documentary, laying more stress on becoming the champion soon. He did go on a healthy detour against The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar after this. However, the plot progressions after that steered him away from the completion of his story. He has been involved in a feud with The Judgment Day for some time that seemed to be going nowhere until the recent announcement.
