However, this is exactly what WWE wanted, according to reports.

WWE tries to build a new Daniel Bryan out of Cody Rhodes

Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer provided more info on the recent controversy surrounding Dwayne Johnson and Cody Rhodes. In the recent episode of WOR, Meltzer said, “They were expecting Cody Rhodes to turn into Daniel Bryan. They were expecting to make Cody Rhodes into a martyr and make him a bigger babyface out of that.”

As per Meltzer’s statement, WWE expects Cody Rhodes’ American Dream story to turn into a similar story to Daniel Bryan’s. In 2014, Daniel Bryan struggled his way through the corporate hassle to pave his way into the WrestleMania main event and World title. It is a story about a common man’s struggle towards success, a formula WWE has executed multiple times.

Since Daniel Bryan left the company, WWE is looking to build a similar character out of Cody Rhodes that the audience can relate to. So it seems that WWE was expecting a lot of the things that came out from the segment.

Meltzer feels the outrage for Cody Rhodes was expected by WWE

Meltzer further revealed more details about the segment where WWE received negative reactions for their booking. He said, “Were they expecting the people to boo Dwayne? I don’t know, because I’ve asked that one and haven’t gotten a straight answer. The reaction for Cody, about Cody getting screwed and people getting behind Cody, that was part of the story. That was absolutely expected.”

The Rock was pushed to the WrestleMania main event scene after Cody Rhodes agreed to sacrifice his spot. Hence, the crowd started to boo The Rock. Meltzer said that he isn’t sure if WWE was expecting the response towards The Rock as he has not received the answer yet. But the reaction towards Cody was expected.
