Taking to social media, Johnson posted a heart-touching message to Wyatt’s family and the WWE universe. The Rock began by talking about how heartbroken he was after hearing the news of the passing of Wyatt. The Rock cited Wyatt’s presence, in-ring work, and promos as the aspects he loved the most about his WWE character.

Furthermore, he talked about the unique, extraordinary, and rare character that Wyatt brought to the WWE. According to The Rock, this gave him a deeper connection with the WWE universe. Moreover, he said that a character like Wyatt’s is hard to create in modern pro wrestling.

In conclusion, he said he sent his condolences, love, and mana to the families of Wyatt and Terry Funk. Funk was another wrestling legend who passed away just a day before Wyatt.

This kind of praise by a WWE icon like The Rock makes you wonder why the WWE saw fit to release Wyatt in 2021

The revitalization of Wyatt and release from the WWE

On May 13, 2019, Wyatt introduced The Fiend. A mysterious masked alter ego of Wyatt. To build up the hype around The Fiend, WWE had him do a run-in with Finn Balor on WWE RAW. We would not see The Fiend in action till SummerSlam 2019. The entrance and the match put The Fiend over with the fans whose chants echoed through the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. However, what seemed like a fresh start to a new chapter in Wyatt’s storyline saw horrible booking.

His Hell in a Cell match with Seth Rollins would end with the referee stopping it. He would go on to win the WWE Universal Championship but lost it to Goldberg just four months later. The most memorable part would be the Firefly Fun House Match with John Cena at WrestleMania 36. Wyatt would announce a fresh start, only to be released in July.

According to insiders, it was due to budget cuts. This led to fan backlash towards the WWE for releasing one of the best creative stars in the company.
