However, the most eagerly awaited contest was a genuine dream match between the Beast Incarnate and the Phenomenal One. AJ Styles had just won the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal, replacing the Modern Day Maharaja at the PPV.

This change was welcomed by literally every wrestling fan and the Champion vs Champion match became instantaneously more interesting.

Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles served up an instant classic

In a David vs Goliath type of match, Styles tried to avoid the power of Lesnar but was cornered by Brock who pummeled him. He absolutely dominated Styles with brutal knees to the gut and his signature German Suplexes. He even threw AJ Styles across the ring with a wicked belly-to-belly suplex.

Styles seemed out for the count but was able to fight back, even managing to hit Lesnar with a Pele Kick. He took the fight to the Beast until Lesnar side-stepped the Phenomenal Forearm and hit Styles with a monstrous German Suplex which turned the WWE Champion inside out.

Styles still had gas in his tank, hitting Lesnar with a picture-perfect springboard 450 Splash for a near fall. That was the first pinfall attempt of the match, 12 minutes into the brutal encounter. Styles slipped out of an F5 attempt and locked Lesnar in the Calf-Crusher which seemed destined to give Styles the win.

An exciting finish to an exhilarating match

Unfortunately for Styles, the submission was not enough to put the Beast away. Lesnar smashed Styles’ head against the mat like a basketball. It became one of the most brutal spots in WWE, despite how simple Lesnar made it look.

Lesnar went for another F5 but Styles slipped out to the apron and finally managed to hit Lesnar with the Phenomenal Forearm. The near fall that followed was one of the closest near falls ever counted by a referee, leaving the 14,000 fans inside the Toyota Center at the edge of their seats the whole time.
