After months of being out of action because of injury, Cody Rhodes came out of his hiatus with a bang. He entered this year’s Royal Rumble match and came out victorious. Ever since his monumental victory, there has been only one goal in his mind and that is to defeat the Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, and capture the gold.

On last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, the WWE Universe saw Paul Heyman taunting Rhodes by saying that he is no match for The Tribal Chief, as he was trained by The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, an honor The American Nightmare did not get to be a part of.

In the interview, Rhodes also discusses his late father’s involvement in his current story with The Head of the Table. The host of the show asks the Raw brand star about how “comfortable” he feels using his father as “a part of his storyline.

The 6’2 wrestler in response to this question says, One thing is burned into my brain, I was watching WWE with my dad and he told me, he goes, when people say like he would have loved this… don’t ever let anyone say that about me, and that’s burned into my brain.”

As per Rhodes’ rule, if a person “didn’t know” Dusty Rhodes, or he was not “trained” by him in “NXT” or never “worked” with him then that person has no right to use his father’s name for the sake of his own good.

The American Nightmare states his case by saying, But in the case of what I’m doing now, I’m playing on the other team, and it’s like my dad is the head coach of the other team, because Bayley, Kevin [Owens], Sami [Zayn], Seth [Rollins], Roman [Reigns] all these people he helped and he didn’t train me. Paul [Heyman] is not lying.”

In addition, the 220 lb star confesses that as he is on the road to headline this year’s WrestleMania, he is thinking about his father more and more. It is because his father was one of the few people to have faith in him and his capability to go on to the main event of The Showcase of Immortals.

Rhodes added that if his father would have been alive today, then his father would have “lost it” if he had known that his son is going to wrestle against his protégé, The Big Dog. And that the fight is scheduled at WrestleMania 39 which is going to be in Hollywood, a place where his father wanted him to end up in the first place.
