Chet Singh took to Twitter today to announce his retirement from competitive CS:GO. The now-former 100Thieves coach, popularly known as ‘ImAPet’, had joined the organization on the 26th of May, 2020. He admitted in his tweet he had been thinking about retirement ‘for a while.’

Chet admitted that he was ready to sign for a Valorant team after leaving Evil Geniuses. However, he was thankful to receive an offer from 100T, which changed his mind. Chet had made it clear while signing that he felt conflicted about the teams in Counter-Strike as compared to the teams in the nascent competitive scene in Valorant. Therefore, he went ahead with the decision that didn’t feel forced to him.

Although Chet was under a longer period of contract with 100T, they didn’t hold him to it. He couldn’t manage to bag any achievements for the team in his short stint with them. In all probability, 100T was happy to let go of a coach who wasn’t 100% into the game. However, it appears that they parted on a positive note and the team treated Chet well during his short stay with them.

Chet’s future plans don’t have room for CS:GO

While Chet did say he will be ‘back one day’, there are a lot of reasons to believe that he has other plans. The first and the most obvious reason was his hesitation in deciding whether to join a Valorant team or a CS:GO one. While he felt like moving on from CS:GO, he didn’t feel that he would settle in the Valo competitive scene.

It’s been 4 months since that decision, however, and both Chet and Valorant have had enough time to grow and become suitable for each other.

While Chet did say that he would update the community on his future soon, Fnatic JW jumped the gun before him. While congratulating him, JW also wished him luck for Valorant. It appears that few of his colleagues are already aware of his plans. He also included one of Chet’s famous quotes, “They treat us like animals“, reminding everyone of his achievements.

If Chet goes ahead and switches from CS to Valo, he would be the first coach to do so. While Chet’s next step remains a mystery to most, the mention of Valorant does seem to hint at a shift in titles.
