The Citi Open will begin on the 2nd of August with the men’s singles ties playing out. Rafael Nadal, Grigor Dimitrov and Sebastian Korda were practicing together at the Washington DC courts. Nadal and Korda were hitting it off with a practice game as the fans watched on.
Nadal has started his preparations for the US Open which begins later this month. In order to make a comeback from his injury prone summer, Nadal will look for a strong finish in Washington.

Rafael Nadal pulls in crowd for practice session with Sebastian Korda
Rafael Nadal hasn’t even started playing his main matches at the Citi Open, however he has managed a full house crowd. The crowd at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center started cheering for the Spaniard when he stepped onto the Stadium Court. Nadal was practicing with Sebastian Korda on Saturday for his upcoming first round matches.
Along with Nadal and Korda, Grigor Dimitrov joined them too for a session at the Stadium Court. The Bulgarian will be competing in the men’s doubles event, partnering with Tommy Paul of the US. Dimitrov is also the fourth seed in the men’s singles event and has an easy path till the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Nadal will be facing either Jack Sock or Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round. Nadal is the top seed at the Citi Open and will be able to reach the quarterfinals with great ease. However, his main challenge will begin in the semifinals. Korda is the 12th seed in Washington and has the likes of Alex de Minaur in his half of the draw.
Nadal’s injury prone 2021
Rafael Nadal was struggling during the Australian Open earlier this year. He was playing with a back injury during the tournament and did not look to be in shape. He lost out to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals in a thrilling five-setter.
During the French Open in June, Nadal lost in the semifinals against Novak Djokovic. The match turned out to be another thrilling five-setter which saw Djokovic making a comeback. Nadal later announced that he was going to miss out on the Wimbledon Championships and the Olympic Games due to a foot injury.
