In a society obsessed with youth and the pursuit of eternal vitality, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that age dictates our capabilities, especially when it comes to fitness and the gym. While there certainly are natural physiological changes that occur with age, such as decreased muscle mass and flexibility, these changes can be mitigated through regular exercise and training.
A perfect example of this is Mike O’Hearn. O’Hearn is in his 50s and is still the epitome of fitness. Quite recently, during the Generation Iron podcast hosted by O’Hearn, ex-WWE star Billy Gunn revealed that he is way too much into bodybuilding now as compared to his earlier years. Let’s take a quick look at what exactly did Gunn say.

During the recent podcast that Billy Gunn and Mike O’Hearn sat for, the duo admitted that Gunn’s physique was absolutely amazing during his prime WWE days. However, Gunn disclosed that he did not really give his best for that physique as he was still enjoying his young life. He pointed out, “Imagine what I really could have looked like if I’d have put some effort into it…I was not focused on my training as I am now.”

Explaining the logic behind this, Gunn stated that his main motive at the time was not to get big or to look impressive, it was to wrestle and to be able to win inside the ring. “My mindset was never working out, my mindset was to become the best wrestler,” said Gunn.
Admitting the truth himself, he said, “I’m more into the bodybuilding thing right now.” What Gunn said made complete sense as his primary goal was to wrestle and not to compete in a bodybuilding show. He sends the perfect message that age shall never be an excuse to forego a healthy lifestyle. O’Hearn is also a firm believer that an individual shall keep striving toward success instead of settling down.
