“They’d Rather Have Us Obese, Sick, and Hooked on the Pill”: Fitness World Joins Arnold Schwarzenegger in Disparaging Wild Headline Linking Fitness to Politics

In January 2023, Arnold Schwarzenegger launched his daily fitness newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, to help busy Americans get fitter. The obesity stats and general lack of exercise among the masses worried the 75-year-old fitness icon, and hence he resolved to help everyone live fitter and healthier. However, an opinion piece by a renowned media house doesn’t agree with people like Schwarzenegger.
On July 10, MSNBC shared the link to an “opinion piece” article on Twitter. However, the headline and the article’s content caused massive outrage on Twitter. Even Twitter owner Elon Musk commented. However, instead of immediately bashing the article, bodybuilding and fitness icon Arnold Schwarzenegger reasoned why fitness has no relation to politics. The fitness community thanked him for his disparaging yet subtle response.

While many people resorted to bashing or making sarcastic jokes on the original thread, the Austrian shared the post with his insights. As a former politician representing the Republican Party, Schwarzenegger is well-versed in politics and everything related to it. “Fitness is not political. Right or left,” wrote the former Governor of California against the caption that claimed, “The far right’s obsession with fitness is going digital.”
Instead, the seven-time Mr. Olympia winner wrote what people, regardless of their political ideology, can learn from pursuing fitness. “All of us can benefit from the lessons of progressive resistance training,” wrote the 75-year-old. “Creating a vision/goal, building a routine. doing the reps, learning to love failure, the list goes on…” he added.

While the 75-year-old bodybuilding legend couldn’t have joined the outrage, he chose to disparage it with knowledge. This is also not the first time Schwarzenegger has dealt with “bogus” headlines meant to attract readers’ attention with little substance behind them. The fitness world joined the former Mr. Universe in raising their voice against the slanderous opinion piece.
The fitness community thanked the Austrian Oak for his informed take
One fan thanked the bodybuilding icon and agreed that fitness helps people realize their true potential.
Thank you Arnold!

A second fan agreed with the bodybuilding legend’s take on fitness. After agreeing that fitness is about personal growth, the fan encouraged Arnie to keep helping more people find health and wellness.
Absolutely! Fitness transcends politics. It's about personal growth, discipline, and resilience. Whether you're lifting weights or running miles, the journey to better health is a universal one. Keep promoting wellness for all!

One Twitter user couldn’t fathom why someone would claim fitness is related to politics.
How can fitness be political?
— Greg (@Middleground365) July 10, 2023
However, another user claimed the only reason one would have such an opinion is when they have an ulterior motive.
Because they’d rather have us obese, sick and hooked on the pill.
