Moton, 17, recently fought Anthony Cuba on the Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora card on March 31. The fight was a learning curve for him, as he fought for eight rounds for the first time. Despite being pitted against an older and more experienced fighter, Moton came on top as he earned a unanimous decision. His left-right-left hook combinations impressed everyone, along with his stamina and ability to take shots. His reward? A spot in the top 15 at 130 pounds.

Curmel Moton wants to get used to the rigors of a 12-round brawl

Moton, a Floyd Mayweather Jr. prodigy, turned to his X handle and shared the latest update surrounding him. He shared an image of the latest rankings by BoxRec, which slotted him at 14th. He wrote, “With only 3 fights📈.”  His previous two fights against Hunter Turbyfill and Ezequiel Flores ended in first-round knockout wins.

Interestingly, Moton has fought both at featherweight and super featherweight, and he is comfortable fighting in both classes. His latest fight was at 130 pounds, so he has been ranked accordingly.“I feel strong at both weights. So [I will fight at] either one,” Moton explained before his fight with Cuba.

The biggest hurdle for Moton, at present, seems to be getting used to the vagaries of fighting 12 rounds. He echoed the same desire in the post-fight interview, as he specified his desire to go 10 rounds. “I was still ready to go more rounds after eight,” he said. Moton would be back in the gym on Monday and continue to work hard to achieve his dream of being a world champion.

En route to being a world champion

“I want to be a world champion one day. So I’m on the right track,” Moton told BoxingScene. With him already in the top 15 at 130, a championship fight might not be a distant reality. His promoter, Leonard Ellerbe, has already admitted to exploring the match against featherweight champion Leigh Wood.

Mayweather Promotions’ CEO believes their prodigy could fight for a world title next year, but before that, Moton has to add more experience fighting for 10-round fights. While now it doesn’t take 18–19 fights to fight for a title, Moton still needs some in-ring experience. It remains to be seen who Moton fights next and for how many rounds.
