When Canelo Alvarez failed a doping test

Canelo Alvarez was preparing for his rematch with Gennady Golovkin in 2018. This was also the time when he failed two drug tests. Alvarez tested positive for a drug named Clenbuterol.

It is worth noting that it is a prescription-only asthma medication. And it has also been banned by anti-doping associations for its use as a performance-enhancing drug. However, he claimed that the substance entered his body after he ate tainted meat. Alvarez also mentioned that this affected a lot of athletes in Mexico over the years.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission slapped him with a six-month suspension after the incident.
