David Benavidez has been looking forward to a fight against, Canelo Alvarez. He has been relentlessly challenging Alvarez, wanting a chance to prove himself as the best in the division before moving up in weight. Canelo Alvarez’s manager Eddie Hearn had previously stated that in order to get this chance, Benavidez needs to earn it by winning against Caleb Plant. However, this didn’t frustrate Benavidez as he proved his mettle after defeating Plant.

In the past Canelo and Golden Boy Promotions had a huge fallout leading to Canelo suing DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions for breach of contract. So the relationship between the owner of the promotion Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo is not good for obvious reasons. In a recent interview with Fight Hype, former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya shared his honest opinions about the highly-anticipated fight between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez. Despite their rivalry, De La Hoya remained unbiased and straightforward in his predictions.

Oscar De la Hoya’s honest comment about Canelo Alvarez

When asked if Benavidez would perform better than Caleb Plant did against Canelo, De La Hoya responded that Benavidez had more experience and was a better and complete fighter. He also praised Benavidez’s performance against Plant, acknowledging Plant as an excellent fighter.

He said, “Yeah see because look Benavidez beat up Plant, that is coming off fighting Canelo so he has more experience, he’s a better fighter, he’s a complete fighter.

Regarding the rumors that Benavidez might easily defeat Canelo due to his size advantage, De La Hoya did not completely agree. He stated that it would be a tough fight and compared it to “two trucks just smashing together.

Dela Hoya said, “I don’t know if he’ll run through him but it’ll be hell of a fight“. De La Hoya’s honesty and insight into the sport of boxing add value to the conversation about the highly-anticipated match. It will be interesting to see if his predictions come true and how the fight will play out in the end.

Bivol fight in jeopardy, sad news for Canelo

While Benavidez is so adamant about his fight against Alvarez, Canelo himself is facing a bit of dejection. Negotiations for a rematch between Dmitry Bivol and Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez have hit a roadblock due to both fighters’ refusal to compromise on the weight issue of the contest. Moreover, in the same interview, De La Hoya expressed his honest feelings about the rematch between Bivol and Alvarez.

Bivol, who currently holds the WBA Light Heavyweight title, successfully defended his belt against Álvarez in a unanimous decision in 2022. Although there was no rematch clause in the initial agreement, talks of a second fight arose following Canelo’s loss to Bivol.

However, Bivol’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, expressed doubts that the rematch would happen due to the weight issue. Bivol has requested the rematch take place at the super middleweight rather than the light heavyweight as previously. Canelo, on the other hand, has refused this demand in the past.

With both champions refusing to back down, it’s uncertain whether the rematch will happen. Bivol’s team wants to win more belts, and for him, that means challenging Canelo to fight at a lower weight class. It remains to be seen if Canelo will agree to these terms.
