The all-British clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has been a topic of discussion for the longest time. Previously, a potential fight came close to reality but fell apart rather quickly. In the recent past, even a fight between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk seemed beyond grasp. But promoter Frank Warren recently announced the brawl in Saudi Arabia in December or January, to the delight of boxing fans everywhere. So, the boxing world wondered if a clash between Fury and Joshua could also materialize. John Fury recently spoke about the same in an interview.

‘AJ’ last got into the ring in August against Robert Helenius, winning the fight via knockout. Despite a win in his last showdown, Joshua has faced considerable challenges in the recent past. He suffered his first career loss against Andy Ruiz and followed that by losing twice to Fury’s future opponent Oleksandr Usyk. So, a fight against Fury can be a redemption arc for ‘AJ.’ However, is a fight with Fury even possible? During an appearance in an interview with Daily Mail Sport Boxing, John Fury detailed the only way a fight between the two boxers could happen.

John Fury claimed he doesn’t like Deontay Wilder

When asked if an AJ vs. Fury fight could ever happen? John explicitly stated, “The only way that can happen – he is gotta beat Deontay Wilder.” He further emphasized that every boxer is sidestepping a fight with the ‘Bronze Bomber.’ John claimed, “I don’t like Deontay Wilder. I can’t stand him as a man.” Daddy Fury highlighted that every boxer in the heavyweight division is scared of Deontay Wilder

John went on to emphasize the only boxer who isn’t scared of fighting Wilder is Tyson Fury. He then reiterated his previous assertion, “If AJ wants to fight Tyson, let him defeat Wilder.”

The reporter later asked John if Joshua vs. Wilder could happen in Saudi. He responded by claiming, “If the Saudis want to pay for Joshua v Wilder, fair enough.” However, he highlights his original comment again, “He’s [Anthony Joshua] got to do something.”

Malik Scott on Anthony Joshua facing Deontay Wilder

Deontay Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, recently spoke to Fight Hype, shedding light on a fight between Wilder and Joshua. According to Scott, Joshua is avoiding a fight against Wilder because Wilder’s fighting style makes Joshua vulnerable to a knockout. He claimed Joshua would rather fight other opponents he thinks he can beat.

Scott even claimed most heavyweights avoid fighting Deontay Wilder because of his reputation as the hardest puncher in boxing. Expressing his disappointment regarding Wilder’s inactivity in boxing, Scott claims fighters decline big paydays to avoid the risk of fighting Wilder. It’s worth mentioning that out of his 43 wins, Wilder won 42 fights via knockouts.

After John’s statement, it’s pretty clear that Joshua vs. Fury is not happening any time soon. Also, if Scott’s statement is any evidence, Joshua would need severe convincing to face Wilder. What are your thoughts on Joshua vs. Fury and Joshua vs. Wilder?
