An unfamiliar revelation has been made, related to Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis‘s fight that took place on April 22 in Las Vegas. It is very hard to build a repertoire as good as Davis and Garcia with no losses. Which made it all the more exciting for the fans when Garcia and Davis put their undefeated record on the line for their fight. Many thought that the fight would never materialize much like Errol Spence Jr. And Terence Crawford‘s fight.

Though a lot of hurdles came in between, both fighters showed great interest in the fight and fans got what they desired the most. However, Garcia’s contribution to the fight taking place is nothing to scoff at. Garcia agreed to all the terms Davis had, including the rehydration clause that potentially put him at a disadvantage. The spectacular duel concluded with Garcia on his knees, brows twisted in pain. Davis landed a solid body shot during the seventh round which caused Garcia to take a knee and not able to get back on his feet.

It was initially believed that Davis had landed a liver shot which rendered Garcia unable to continue. However, shocking news recently came out which has changed people’s understanding of what went down in the match.

Goossen had a suspicion that Garcia’s injured rib had an impact on the outcome of the fight. To confirm this, Goossen asked Garcia if the punch hit his rib, and Garcia affirmed that it did. Although Garcia acknowledged that his rib injury was the reason he didn’t want to continue, he didn’t want to make excuses for his loss. He candidly admitted, “I didn’t wanna continue because of my rib”. Goossen tried to comfort Garcia by saying that the punch he received was a tough one to recover from. And that getting hit on the chin would have been preferable. Garcia concurred with his trainer.

Davis’ counter left to Garcia’s chin first knocked him down in the second round. And in the seventh round, he could not continue due to his injured rib. Junior lightweight prospect Tsendbaatar Erdenebat revealed on social media after Garcia’s loss that he badly hurt Garcia in a sparring session with a left to the same side of his body that Davis drilled him. Garcia accused Erdenebat of leaking information to Davis’ team, but Erdenebat denied being the “mole” in Garcia’s camp to whom Davis and his handlers referred during fight week.
