Reigning WBC super featherweight champion, Oscar Valdez, is preparing to defend his title against the current WBO champion, Shakur Stevenson. In a recent interview, Valdez hilariously revealed that he will bite Stevenson if he has to.

Valdez was in an interview with Sky Sports Boxing. He was walking around the MGM Grand Garden Arena, viewing championship posters, and being interviewed by the correspondent, Andy Scott.

In conversation, Scott takes him to the infamous ‘Bite Fight’ where Mike Tyson faced Evander Holyfield.

Moreover, he compared the fight to Valdez’s upcoming bout. Scott said, “I know there is a lot of bad blood in this fight. But, surely we are not at that level, are we?”

Valdez responded, saying, “I’m not biting, no one’s ear.”

However, he quickly added, “I hope I don’t get my ear bit.”

Valdez also hilariously mentioned that if bitten, he will gladly return the favor. He said, “I don’t think it will get to that level. Hopefully, I don’t get my ear bit off. I’ll bite him back if he bites me.”

An earful with ‘Iron Mike’

Mike Tyson faced the behemoth, Evander Holyfield, for their WBA heavyweight championship rematch on June 28, 1997. The fight, which was infamously billed as the ‘Bite Fight’, gained notoriety for being one of the strangest events in boxing history.

In the last forty seconds of the third round, Holyfield got Tyson in a clinch. Tyson rolled his head around and bit Holyfield’s right ear.

Boxing fans watched in horror as Tyson spit a piece of the bitten ear on the ring.

Oscar Valdez vs Shakur Stevenson

Valdez and Stevenson will be fighting for the unified titles in the super featherweight division at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Valdez will be defending his WBC super featherweight title, while Stevenson will be defending his WBO super featherweight title.

Moreover, the fighters also have their eyes on The Ring’s vacant super featherweight title.
