Vasyl Lomachenko and Richard Commey’s collision was one of the most anticipated lightweight clashes of 2021. Both men locked horns at the biggest of stages in the Madison Square Garden and gave out a fight worth the hype. The duo kept the fans hooked in throughout, however; it was Lomachenko in the end who came on top with a unanimous decision win in this important fight.

This bout’s outcome was bound to garner reactions from biggies of the sport, and they obliged. Let’s take a look at how boxing purists and icons reacted to this fight and ‘Loma’s win.

Teddy Atlas wrote, “Commey showed big heart, but he took a LOT of clean punches. I hope his corner understands and gives him a LONG rest without getting hit!!!” 

“And I hope these commissions understand and do not let him fight for a while!!! And he shouldn’t sparr either!!” Atlas added.

The unified lightweight champ, George Kambosos Jr. also opened up on the Ukrainian boxer’s win.

Coming into this fight, Richard Commey had an edge in terms of power.

That said, he was successful in landing some of his power-packed straight rights and cross hooks. However, ‘Loma’ stunned him with a vicious knockdown in round 7.
