Muhammad Ali’s Grandson Joins Boxing World Champion to Give a Harsh Reality Check

When the words of a well-known pugilist resonated, the harsh reality of everyday boxing must have made Nico Ali Walsh, the great Muhammad Ali‘s grandson, ponder. It’s been two years since Nico Ali Walsh turned professional. With a unanimous win over Eduardo Ayala on February 3 this year, his record is a perfect eight wins. The Middleweight boxer, the third-generation flag-bearer of the illustrious Ali family, plans for a promising future and extends his grandfather Muhammad Ali’s legacy.

The son of Muhammad Ali’s daughter Rashida Ali, Nico Ali Walsh, was born on July 11 in Chicago. After a brief amateur stint, he took to professional boxing in 2021. Five out of his eight victories came through knockout. Bob Arum‘s Top Rank promotes the six-footer, aptly nicknamed ‘The Legend Lives On.’ The Prospect of The Year 2022 award recipient was intrigued by a message today early morning. The reigning IBF Interim Welterweight titleholder Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, posted the message. It read, “Money doesn’t change you; it changes the people around you.”

It’s not clear whether Ennis posted the message for any particular reason or if it was just a random passing thought. But Nico Ali certainly believes in it and shared it immediately with his more than 200k followers on Instagram.

Twenty-five-year-old Jaron Ennis became the IBF Interim Welterweight champion this year after defeating Karen Chukhadzhian on January 7 at Washington D.C.’s Capitol One Arena. The orthodox boxer has had a stellar run as an amateur boxer. He won a silver medal in the 2014 National Golden Gloves and bettered himself in the tournament by winning the gold medal a year later. Turning professional in 2016, Ennis has participated in thirty-one matches and has yet to lose one. Moreover, his knock-out-to-win rate stays at an exceptional 87%.

The Philadelphia-born orthodox boxer reportedly awaits his turn to stake a claim at a world title. However, in the 147 lbs. division, the talks of a unification fight between Terence Crawford and Eroll Spence Jr. failed last year. More so, neither of the fighters displayed any interest in fighting Ennis. As a result, it is safe to say that he seems to be stuck in a rut.
