Boxing is a sport for many fans but strictly business for many of its stakeholders. At times, the off-the-ring politics and negotiations between managers can make or break a fight. One such example is that of Tyson Fury being forced to fight Deontay Wilder for the third time in 2021.

The two are formidable opponents and share a rivalry that is etched in the history books. The two have shared the ring 3 times. After their first bout ended in a draw, Fury defeated Wilder decisively in their rematch. And it was assumed by the boxing community that the rivalry has been settled.

However, prior to their third bout, Wilder exercised the dispute resolution provision in the deal that triggered binding arbitration.

The financial loss of Tyson Fury during the arbitration

Recently, Frank Warren, the boxing promoter of Tyson Fury revealed that the heavyweight champion had to bear a financial loss of $2 Million. He confesses that the reason why he fought Wilder in the trilogy was because of arbitration. He also mentions that the legal fees for the same was around  “$2 Million”.

@MichaelBensonn took to Twitter and reported, “Frank Warren has revealed that Tyson Fury spent “nearly $2 Million” in legal fees fighting the Deontay Wilder arbitration case in 2021, which he ultimately lost and so had to face Wilder in a trilogy bout regardless”.

The arbitration went in favor of Wilder and Fury had to pay a huge price for the legal proceedings. Fortunately, for him, he came out as the victor in the final chapter of the trilogy and settled the rivalry once and for all. It appears that Fury has moved on from their rivalry but Wilder on the other hand still seems to be livid with the ‘Gypsy King’ .
