The Fury family is heavily under the spotlight this year. It all started when Tommy Fury defeated Jake Paul earlier this year. And then it went on to his older and bigger brother, Tyson Fury after he decided he would fight Francis Ngannou and not his most anticipated opponent, Oleksandr Usyk. And now the attention is directed toward their father, John Fury.
John Fury, the trainer and father of the Fury brothers is one of the most scrutinized personalities in boxing circles. In 2011, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for reportedly gouging out the eye of an ex-friend. Now, out of prison, after serving only four years of his sentence, he spends his time engaging in conversations around the sport. His short career in pro-boxing that spread over the 1980s and 90s saw him fight only 13 times. However, his only challenge for a title saw him lose against Neil Malpass in 1989. Ever since his retirement and the jail fiasco, he can be seen supporting his sons out with their boxing careers and also spending some time building his own brand on social media.
Recently, he has turned up to support a very famous English band.

In the video, John Fury can be seen getting all riled up in order to push his trainees to their highest potential. But his trainees here are not boxers. They are the band members of The Reytons. He can be seen yelling and hyping them to fix their game before they hit the stage. Engaging content creation at its best, right?
Amidst his own social media engagements, John has always prioritized being by his children’s side. Now as his eldest son is under heavy criticism, he has left no stone unturned to defend Tyson Fury.
John Fury defends Fury fighting Ngannou
If you’ve been following heavyweight boxing, you must be aware of the fact that Tyson Fury is being heavily criticized for booking a fight against former UFC champion, Francis Ngannou. The two reasons for this uproar are – one, he pulled out of the fight against Oleksandr Usyk that was supposed to happen in December in Saudi Arabia.
If this fight had gone ahead, the heavyweight division would have had an undisputed champion. Reportedly he was not happy with his split of the purse, hence, he pulled out. Secondly, his decision to fight Ngaanou. It is the former UFC heavyweight champion’s maiden fight in boxing. Moreover, it is not a championship fight as Fury’s WBC title won’t be on the line.

However, amidst all these allegations, John Fury has come ahead to defend his son. In an interview, John said, “It is the best option, and it is a gift for both boys. It is a great idea and a great spectacle and both boys are getting paid. It is a crossover fight and that makes it a fun fight. I just think the public want it, there is a lot of interest in it. In conventional boxing, there is a bit of a lull, and these crossover fights are good competition”.
