Ahead of her own fight against Yamileth Mercado, Amanda Serrano recently trained with influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul. In a recent interview, the current unified featherweight boxing world champion revealed her experience training with the YouTube star. She shared a contrarian opinion that she feels most fans and other pro boxers do not understand about the 24-year-old.

Amanda Serrano respected his determination to succeed in the sport. She added that even though he does not really need to fight and dedicate all of his time to boxing, he still does so because he wants to. Serrano dominated mixed martial arts and wrestling before venturing out into boxing; she compared herself with the Ohio native. She shared that much like her own boxing career, Jake Paul has also chosen to go down this road purely for the love of the sport.

The champ added he has a solid team behind him, that he is sparring with challenging opponents and that he really wants to get a win on August 29th against Tyron Woodley.

Jake is young, he’s hungry, and I saw that when I was training with him. He doesn’t need to box, he wants to fight, and that’s a good thing about any fighter like me, I love the sport of boxing, I wanna fight. I really don’t need to and that’s why I continue to fight.”

But you can just see it, he’s surrounded himself with positive people, with boxing people, he’s flying great sparring partners in. So you can tell that he really wants it. He hasn’t lost you know and Woodley, I don’t know his mindset for this fight in particular, but he is a fighter,” said Amanda Serrano.

Tyron Woodley is indubitably the Ohio native’s toughest challenge yet. The five-time former UFC welterweight champion is infamous for his vicious striking and his knockout highlight reels inside the octagon. While he has garnered immense experience in the UFC by fighting elite athletes in the welterweight division, this is his first shot at professional boxing.

In this scenario, YouTube star Jake Paul is the more experienced professional boxer. Paul has shown that he has impressive control over his striking. He also showed superior skill by knocking out Ben Askren with a straight jab and Nate Robinson while moving on his back foot.

However, experience is always a dangerous weapon going into a fight; Tyron Woodley’s overall understanding of combat sports could play to his advantage.

As for Paul’s champion training partner, Amanda Serrano has also promised to put on a show for fans on August 29th. Serrano sees her matchup with super-bantamweight WBC champion, Yamileth Mercado, as bigger than a fight with undisputed lightweight champion, Katie Taylor. She believes that a female boxing co-main fight on a card of this magnitude is a stepping stone for her.

Amanda Serrano also teased the possibility of a mega-clash against Irish lightweight champ Katie Taylor. In an interview with DAZN, the featherweight champion said, “I mean every fight is a big fight, and especially that fight with Katie Taylor is gonna be a great fight, but I think this is a breaking point for females.
