Canelo Alvarez was speculated to face many opponents over the past few months. His potential opponents’ list included the likes of Jermall Charlo, David Benavidez, and more. However, Canelo is now set to face Dmitry Bivol on May 7, putting an end to all the rumors surrounding his next fight.

Prior to this, he was expected to ink a 2-fight deal with Al Haymon’s PBC to fight Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez. But, the p4p king chose Eddie Hearn’s deal, which will put him against Dmitry Bivol and possibly Gennady Golovkin.

Recently, Stephen Espinoza, Showtime President, spoke to Fight Hub TV. Here he opened up whether the $100 million deal offered to Canelo was accurate or not.

He said, “Yeah, it was significantly more lucrative than what DAZN had on the table. You know, at least my understanding what I was told”.

Al Haymon’s deal for Canelo was worth $100 million, but the latter didn’t quite find it lucrative. On the other hand, Eddie Hearn’s offer stood at $85 million and Alvarez went ahead with the same.

Espinoza, in his above comments, also seemed open to working with the p4p great at some point in the future. For now, Canelo will focus on battling Bivol in the light heavyweight category, post which everyone wants him to exchange leather with the rival, Gennady Golovkin.
