Last month, he took his millions of followers on a virtual tour as he zoomed from one exotic location to another in Europe, loaded with packs of expensive purchases. Thankfully, FightHype caught the boxing legend on his home turf for a tête-à-tête. As it rolled out, within the first ten minutes, the former champion took them through a range of topics. Some were related to him, and a few were about others. But thankfully, by his admission, Floyd Mayweahter Jr. soon realized the faux pas and brought the interview back on course.

The sheer beauty of the Mayweather residence mesmerized Ben Thompson, owner of FightHype. He checked for any updates on the rematch with John Gotti III. The next question was about the Terence CrawfordErrol Spence Jr. fight that the former champion saw firsthand. He explained about having a whale of a time at the venue, besides personally reaching out to both boxers.

Conversations on the move with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

And after that, the talks strolled from how he avoids predicting the outcome of significant fights to how, time and again, he receives criticism for having fought boxers way out of their prime. Mayweather Jr. briefed his side of the story, but he realized the oversight by then. He said, “Yeah, but let’s finish talking about that fight. Yeah, well, I was about to say, of course, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Let me tell the people on FightHype: I apologize; I jump around.

From his side, Thompson mentioned that it was entirely all right. Mayweather Jr. asked whether he preferred holding off the conversation for a while or picking a new one altogether. The FightHype owner, displaying propriety, replied that whatever the champion mentioned was bang on the spot.

Calling himself a bit ‘rusty,’ Ben Thompson shared that either way, he was about to backtrack to where he left off a few minutes ago. The former champion settled for the arrangement and returned to the July 29 fight. As most who have spoken to or interviewed him would know, it’s a challenge and a skill to keep the line of discussion with Mayweather Jr. on track without changing its course.

What comes next for the boxing great?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. had promised a hectic schedule for 2023. The undefeated former champion has already fought in two exhibition matches this year. During the interview, he confirmed that talks of a fight with Haitian-Canadian boxer Jean Pascal didn’t come to fruition. Hence, the possibility of the year’s third fight, a rematch with John Gotti III, remains high.
