It seems like boxing is missing something. The sport is known for its display of strength and hand speed. And even though these two are essential characteristics of boxing, there are other attributes that are also important. According to a gymnastics coach, flexibility can open new avenues for boxers. Former Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua‘s physiologist has recently opened up about the benefits of a flexible body and its role in improving overall boxing performance.
Joshua is preparing for his fight against Dillian Whyte on August 12. And he has also managed to record footage of his latest training camp and share it with his fans. He recently uploaded a video on YouTube titled “I Breathe Life Into This Division.” It shows the former champ training for the fight. But, his physiologist is getting attention from the fans for his suggestions to ensure the longevity of the professional careers of boxers.

Role of Flexibility in Boxing
Joshua’s physiologist dwelled on the importance of flexibility and how it can help boxers improve their strength. And, to back his claims, he has a stupendous experience of 45 years in coaching gymnastics, so it is safe to say that he knows a thing or two about what he is talking about.
He said, “For boxing, it needs to be a little tight, but flexibility will give you longevity.” Further, talking about the positives of including stretching and flexibility exercises in the training routine. He added, “More flexible, more mobile, more range of motion you have, your career can be much longer.”

And, to make his point, he can be seen helping Joshua stretch by picking him up easily. It should be noted that Joshua is a heavyweight weighing 245 pounds. But the physio picks him up like any normal person.
